BYD teases Han luxury EV ahead of global launch in Europe
MANILA: This suave-looking saloon is BYD’s newest electric vehicle (EV) that’s set to debut in Europe sporting the latest 5G system and the marque’s cutting-edge battery and driver-assist technology.
Called the Han EV, it will be the flagship model of the Chinese automaker conceived, designed and manufactured specifically for the premium luxury segment.
It uses the new ‘EV Dragon Face’ design language that combines elements of a traditional Chinese Dragon with strikingly modern European design cues. Case in point, the curved front-end and day-time running lights mimic the shape of a traditional Chinese dragon’s face.
The sleek shape is accentuated by the high waistline running along the length of the vehicle all the way to the sweeping back line of the D-pillar and finished nicely by the tapered rear lighting cluster.
One of its high-tech safety features is the DiPilot advanced intelligent driving assistance system that has self-learning and self-evolution abilities. To be able to run it, the vehicle is equipped with the latest 5G technology.
Providing power is BYD’s state-of-the-art Blade Battery. While it has traditional ternary lithium-ion battery packs, it uses a high-performance silicon carbide motor-control module that improved the peak-current capacity by 58%, allowing it to produce a stable current of up to 800 Amps. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes only 3.9 seconds and it can cruise all the way to 605 kilometers (376 miles) on one full charge.
The Han EV is also China’s first mass-produced EV with Bosch's ‘IPB Intelligent Integrated Brake System’ to increase braking precision and deliver a longer range and improved braking comfort.
“The Han EV boasts cutting edge technology, benefiting from BYD’s more than ten years of experience in the research and development of EVs. Its use of the ultra-safe Blade Battery, as well as BYD’s in-house pure electric platform, body structure design, eco-friendly materials and safety systems make the Han EV the safest electric car currently on the market. We believe that the Han EV combines the best of Eastern wisdom and Western aesthetics,” he said, “and will fulfil the growing overseas market for a high performance, long-range and ultra-safe electric car. In the longer term, we are also looking forward to seeing the Han EV making a positive impact in other markets around the world,” said Yubo Lian, Senior Vice President of BYD, President of BYD Auto Engineering Research Institute.
