CALAX Subsection 5 in Silang now 93% complete
MANILA: MPCALA Holdings, Inc., a subsidiary of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, has announced the 93% completion of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) Subsection 5. It is expected to be open to motorists in the third quarter of 2021.
The 7.2-km Subsection 5 is a 2x2 lane expressway that will connect the Sta.Rosa-Tagaytay Interchange to Silang East Interchange.
In a statement, MPCALA Holdings President and General Manager Roberto Bonito said, “Once operational, we expect CALAX to serve around 5,000 motorists daily, thereby helping decongest traffic along Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway, and Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road. It is also expected to help accelerate economic progress in Laguna and Cavite as it connects the two provinces of Region IV-A.”
The toll structures of the upcoming Silang East Interchange have already been constructed, while the drainage system and expressway road and safety features including road lights, guard rails, and barriers are still in the works.
Bontia also mentioned that MPCALA strictly observes the health guidelines issued by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to ensure the safety of all its workers.
Once completed, CALAX will span 45 kilometers with interchanges at Kawit, Governor’s Drive, Open Canal, Silang (Aguinaldo) Highway, Silang East, Santa Rosa-Tagaytay, Laguna Boulevard, and Laguna Technopark. It is expected to serve around 45,000 vehicles while reducing the travel time from Cavite to Laguna from two hours to less than an hour.
MPTC manages the operations of CALAX, Cavitex, C5-Link Expressway, North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), NLEX Connector Road, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).
