CAMPI, TMA: Auto sales grow by 35.6% in Sept., breach 20K units
MANILA: The recent consolidated report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) bared that in September, the total vehicle sales of member companies reached a total of 21,493 units. This represents 35.6% growth over the August figure (15,847 units).
CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez said in an accompanying release that the performance is crucial to hitting the industry sales target for the year.
Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) continued to lead sales among all companies — selling 9,929 vehicles (accounting for 46.2% of the total in September). TMP auto sales grew by 26.2% month on month from 7,868 units in August. YTD, the company moved 92,318 vehicles, up by 46.1% over the 63,182 units sold during the same period last year.
In second place is Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) with 2,918 units sold — up 107.2% month-on-month (from 1,408 vehicles). The company accounted for 8.88% of market sales. MMPC’s YTD sales totaled 23,912 units or 14.06% of total vehicles sold.
Ford Motor Company Philippines, Inc. (FMCPI) moved up into third for the month and YTD. It sold 1,780 units, up from 1,480 in August — allowing it to corner a 8.3% slice of the month’s overall sales; YTD unit sales total is 14,704.
Nissan Philippines, Inc. (NPI) is in fourth with 1,737 units sold (up by 59.4% versus August’s 1,090 total). It cornered 8.08% of CAMPI/TMA sales. YTD, the company has sold 13,235 units – 15% below the same period last year.
Dislodged from third is Suzuki Philippines, Inc. (SPH), which now rounds up the top five. It attained 6.94% market share for the month as it sold 1,491 vehicles — growing by 13% versus the August sum of 1,319 units. YTD, SPH has sold 14,445 automobiles, a 37.7% spike versus the same period last year.
Maintained Atty. Gutierrez: “Amid the challenges, the industry’s optimism still lingers for a better sales performance in the fourth quarter this year. This is driven by the overall improved consumer confidence resulting from a more buoyant economic condition and household spending, according to the recent government data.”
Year-to-date, the industry has sold 191,605 units, mustering 29.5% growth compared with the same period last year.
