D-Max, mu-X showcase fuel efficiency in 5-day ‘Isuzu Challenge’
MANILA: Isuzu Philippines took the D-Max and the mu-X on a five-day trip to test the boundaries of their fuel efficiency in just one full tank.

The D-Max and the mu-X are powered by Isuzu’s innovative 4JJ3-TCX engine.Two teams participated in the “Isuzu Challenge,” which involved a drive from Isuzu Subic up north through Isabela and then Cagayan with the participation of official verifiers from the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP). The drive was made challenging by the strong winds that accompanied the rainfall caused by Typhoon Florita. Both vehicles passed over obstructions and debris without any hesitation.
The teams also traveled to the south, navigating Nueva Vizcaya’s winding roads before heading to Alabang.
With the remaining fuel, the vehicles completed the last leg to Bicol. The D-Max covered an astounding 1,564km or equivalent to 20.58km/L in just one full tank. The mu-X, which has a bigger fuel tank capacity of 80 liters, traveled 1,675km or 20.94km/L.
The result can be easily attainable with proper driving habits and Isuzu’s innovative 4JJ3-TCX engine, which balances fuel efficiency and engine performance. Moreover, the six-speed automatic transmission gives the driver more control over gear changes.

Isuzu D-Max is ideal for both on- and off-road use, thanks to its wide stance and aggressive styling. It is equipped with bi-LED headlamps, daytime running lights (DRL), and tail lamps for better visibility. Additionally, the D-Max has an integrated rear bumper that adds protection and a step for easy access to the payload cargo. The D-Max can drive through water as deep as 800mm.
Among the functional interior features of the D-Max are the ergonomic steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, rear air vent, bottle holders, leather seats, large multi-information and infotainment displays, and several USB ports. The driver can even connect their smartphone to the infotainment system through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, allowing them to access mobile apps that help driving become more convenient.

Isuzu mu-X, on the other hand, is considered as one of the safest and most technologically advanced SUVs in the market as it comes with an advanced driver assist system (ADAS) with active and passive safety features. It also highlights a “robust” design and provides an “exclusive” ambience, making every ride look and feel luxurious.
Similar to the D-Max, the mu-X is equipped with leather seats and dual-zone auto climate control system to ensure that every occupant feels comfortable and relaxed even on long rides. It also comes with a 10.1-inch full touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Isuzu mu-X comes with advanced safety features such as anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability control, hill start assist, and seven-position SRS airbags.
The ADAS on the mu-X features pre-crash safety, speed assist system, headlamp control, lane support, rear and side assist, parking aid, reverse camera, and multi-collision brake system. With these state-of-the-art features, the mu-X ensures a convenient, safe, and hassle-free drive.
