DPWH bucks GCQ, set to open NLEX Harbor Link this week
MANILA: Despite the limitation under GCQ (general community quarantine), the DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) is set to open the NLEX (North Luzon Expressway) Harbor Link today.
This is the first DPWH project to completely finish under GCQ and will connect the Port Area in the City of Manila to NLEX and will cut travel time from one hour down to within 15 to 20 minutes.
“The NLEX Harbor Link Project is the first project to be completed this GCQ,” said DPWH Secretary Mark Villar on his Facebook page.
Constructed within 20 months, the final section of the Php 6.55-billion project was the 2.6-kilometer C3-R10 Section that provides direct access between R10 in Navotas City and NLEX. It was inspected by Secretary Villar last week.
The C3-R10 section of the NLEX Harbor Link also includes three exit off-ramps -- Segment 10-C3 Ramp to Caloocan City, Dagat-Dagatan Ramp to Malabon City, and C3-R10 Ramp to Navotas City. It also extends the existing 5.65-kilometer NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 that passes through Karuhatan, Valenzuela City, Governor Pascual Avenue in Malabon City, and 5th Avenue/C3 Road, Caloocan City bypassing the busy Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) and Balintawak Toll Plaza.
