Euro 6 Emission Standard Still a Long Way to Go, says Auto Manufactures
MANILA: The auto world is still covered in grief, people around the globe are under shock as to what one of the most trusted auto giant, VW has done. How the brand played with an issue as serious as emission that experts all over are trying to improve. Adding fuel to the flames is a statement from European Automobile Manufacturers Association, representing 15 Europe-based cars, van, truck, and bus makers.
According to the statement, the association said that it won't be able to meet the Euro 6 nitrogen oxide standard that is currently set to be achieved by the end of this decade. As per ACEA, it can comply with the revised standards by 2017, also the standards are destined to get tighter in near future. By 2020, all emission standards will undergo change and all the cars sold would vomit out just 0.080 kilograms of nitrogen oxide per kilometer, sounds great for the environment but tough for the car-makers.
The Deal...ACEA asked for
Now ACEA has drawn a complete blueprint, as to how future of emission standards will fall on places. First of all, it asked for a conformity factor, you can say it is a way to delay tougher standards for some time. Below is a two point explanation for the same -
- First of all, they want a conformity factor of 2.75 from 2017 to 2020, meaning that the car would be allowed to emit 0.22 kg/km of nitrogen oxide. Making the cars not even eligible for the Euro 5 standard.
- Secondly, they asked for a 1.7 conformity factor in 2020 that is the new diesel cars will emit only 1.7 times the 0.080 kg/km standard, or 0.136 kg/km.
Twist in the Tail....
After the whole mathematical stuff, it's time for a break and a bit of inside news. As per reliable sources, the ACEA has a completely opposite view on the ongoing VW scandal. According to EU, the installation of 'defeat device' by VW was somehow an American conspiracy, "a US conspiracy against European diesel.” Don't ask us how.

In all, EU needs a break and a small vacation to get things right, before it can start taking the environment norms seriously up again in 2020.
