EV of the week: Jaguar I-Pace

EV of the week: Jaguar I-Pace

British car manufacturer, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) under its Jaguar marque, launched the Jaguar I-Pace a few years back. An electric crossover SUV that offers the perfect combination of technology, design, and performance. The Jaguar I-Pace began shipment around the second half of 2018 with Jaguar being one of the first few car manufacturers to ever explore EV crossover SUVs way before Tesla’s Cybertruck shifted the attention of EV enthusiasts from coupes and roadsters to formidable duty-oriented vehicles.

This EV dons a five-door SUV body and uses JLR’s D7e Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA) aluminum platform coupled with Jaguar’s own electric powertrain showcasing the British automotive company’s ingenuity and craftsmanship.

Since its release, the Jaguar I-Pace has earned numerous awards from some of the most highly-acclaimed institutions. It has been recognized as the Arab Wheels "2018 EV of the Year," 2018 Auto Express "Car of the Year" and "Premium EV of the Year," 2019 "German Car of the Year," "Swiss Car of the Year 2019," and its most recent award, the “Golden Steering Wheel Award for Best SUV.” It’s a remarkable piece of technology that allows prospective car buyers to enjoy the luxury, performance, and advanced technology one can only get from Jaguar.

The I-Pace boasts an acceleration speed of 4.8 seconds from 0 to 100 and is capable of putting down a total of 395 digital horses. It produces substantial power and driving dynamics all while maintaining zero tailpipe emissions and is why this EV made it on our list. Its powertrain is based on the I-TYPE Formula E racing car, Jaguar’s lithium-ion pouch battery cell technology and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Electric Motors that are optimized for performance and is built around the idea of efficiency and efficacy. This gives the Jaguar I-Pace the perfect balance between reliability and efficiency making it the ideal green crossover SUV that can do more than just take you from point A to point B.

Jaguar I-Pace Exterior

The exterior of the Jaguar I-Pace embodies the spirit of the brand while incorporating the I-Pace concept. A combination of the stylish yet functional approach to exterior design. This means that you’ll see familiar fixtures like the bold front grille and the pronounced wheel arches inherent to Jaguar vehicles. Likewise, you will see new features like the slim and futuristic LED headlights native to the I-Pace concept. Every part and panel are purposely built to give the Jaguar I-Pace the on-road advantage it can get. The front fascia curves inwards and is designed to reduce drag as air passes in and out the bonnet scoop. Moreover, the air will also pass through its massive but sophisticated curved roofline creating better stability in fast driving conditions. This also allows the Jaguar I-Pace to enjoy aerodynamic advantages for optimized range.

Jaguar I-Pace Interior

Inside the cabin, the Jaguar I-Pace exudes elegance and luxury suited for the digital age. The interior is filled with hues of light tones that reaffirms its luxurious atmosphere along with rich and solid trimmings. However, like its exterior, what sets it apart is the functional technology it hides within.

Although the Jaguar I-Pace is bedizened with advanced tech, it offers a few noteworthy amenities that shines above the rest. First is what Jaguar likes to call “quiet refinement” which rids the cabin of outside noise allowing the driver and its passengers to focus on things that matter. This is helped by the acoustic laminated glass which reduces the noise that enters the cabin from the outside. Moreover, the Jaguar I-Pace is capable of pre-conditioning the cabin temperature as well as cleaning the air quality through its cabin air ionization.

Jaguar I-Pace Battery and Performance

The Jaguar I-Pace offers superior technology in terms of its battery and how well it performs. Here’s a quick look at the battery’s spec sheet.

 Battery  High Energy Density Lithium-ion
 Acceleration  4.8 seconds 0–62 mph (0-100 km/h)
 Range 470 km
Onboard Charger  7kW Single Phase On-Board Charger

Q: How far can I go in a single charge?

A: You can stretch the Jaguar I-Pace to 470 km in between charges, more than enough to cover the average weekly commute of 300 km.

Jaguar I-Pace Safety

Paramount to the features the Jaguar I-Pace has to offer, modern and advanced amenities that are centered around safety can be seen all around the vehicle. These include a slew of airbags (driver, passenger, side curtain, and thorax), ISOFIX seat fixtures, adaptive cruise control with steering assist, emergency braking, cruise control, adaptive speed limiter, traffic sign recognition, and lane keep assist amongst others.

Jaguar I-Pace Pricing

Here’s the updated price list of Jaguar I-Pace:
