Ferrari 488 Pista Spider drop-top revealed at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

MANILA: At the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Ferrari revealed the drop-top edition of the 488 Pista. The most athletic version of the 488 GTB, the Pista was originally launched in February 2018 and proved to a lighter, faster, and a graceful sports car.

Now the company has launched a drop-top version of the Pista officially named as the 488 Pista Spider. The new model is almost the same as the hardtop Pista, however, it provides the driver with an exquisite experience of open-top driving.

The company says that the 488 Pista Spider is the 50th convertible model launched in 70 years of making cars.

The spider is equipped with a 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 generating 720.14 PS and 770.104 Nm of torque. And that’s 50.71 PS and 10. 85 Nm more than the base model of the 488 Pista Spider. The 488 Pista Spider can go 0—100 kmph in just 2.85 seconds with attaining a top speed of 340 kmph. It also has a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that transfers the power to the rear wheels.

The 488 Pista Spider has been inspired by the 488 GTE and 488 challenge race cars. And the Spider is equipped with the same electronics suite, Ferrari’s F1-Trac traction control system, electronic differential, and Ferrari dynamic Enhancer.

The company claims it to be lighter and to achieve this goal they have substituted the carpets with aluminium plates and driver’s door handle with a strap. The car has got a set of diamond finished 20-inch, ten-spoke alloy wheels but according to  Ferrari, carbon fiber wheels are 20 percent lighter than the standard forged alloy rims. But even after having the carbon fiber wheels the Spider weighs almost 220 pounds more than the Pista.

However, the company has not yet made any revelation about the price and a launch date for the new 488 Pista Spider. And it is claimed that the new 488 Pista Spider will convey a “captivating and unprecedented driving experience”.
