First-ever Toyota Young Marketeers Challenge: Pitching the Toyota Vios
MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) just launched the first-ever Toyota Young Marketeers Challenge (TYMC). A competition that hones the creativity and innovation of students as they come up with an effective marketing campaign.
The goal of 2019 TYMC is to “provide college and university students a learning opportunity beyond the classroom” said Cristina Arevalo, first vice president for Brand and Product Planning of TMP. “We’re giving them a platform to practice their marketing skills and knowledge by creating industry-ready campaigns for an exciting product that young marketeers can develop fun ideas for.” And what best way to kick-off this initiative than to pitch the Philippines’ best-selling sedan, the Toyota Vios.
As part of the program, participating students and faculty advisers from various colleges and universities had an immersion tour of Toyota’s plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna. The tour kick-off in the manufacturing floor where participants get to witness first-hand how the Vios is assembled. After this, the students get to visit TMP's partner marketing and advertising agencies to learn from industry practitioners and to give them a bit of inspiration on how to come up with their own campaign for the Vios. On this part of the tour, the participants learn how Toyota campaigns are conceptualized, birthed, and brought to actuality using different marketing channels.
From the submissions, TMP will choose the finalists of the Toyota Young Marketeers Challenge which will be announced later this October. The chosen teams will then face-off in a final pitch with a panel of automotive and marketing industry leaders as judges where the top two teams will be selected. From here, the winner of the first-ever TYMC will be declared the grand champion.
For prizes, the two team finalists will receive technology packages and cash grants for their school or university. In addition to these, the 2019 TYMC grand champion will also get a trip to Japan to visit the home of Toyota Motor Corporation. But besides the prizes, the ultimate bragging rights for the students would be to get the chance to have their winning campaign used by Toyota Motor Philippines in marketing the Vios.
