First look of New Porsche 911
MANILA: 2011 Frankfurt Show was the event when this German high performance car was revealed and now four years down the line the same show will showcase the fresher version of it. A plethora of images of the facelifted 2016 911 testing in South Africa has been surfaced and the updates mainly include the revised daytime running lights, modified air intake slates in the front, custom taillights, and new cooling slats on decklid along with some minor updates on the wing mirrors. The interiors are also slightly modified with a new 918-inspired steering wheel and advanced driving mode panel which offers choice of four programmes.
The sizable update has taken place under the skin where the 911 range is shifted to turbo power. Initially, the 911 Carrera and Carrera S came with 3.4-litre naturally-aspirated six-cylinder and 3.8-litre engine respectively, but now both the models will receive a new 3.0-litre turbo six cylinder mill which would deliver 370 HP of power in the Carrera and 420 HP in Carrera S. Torque of the Carrera S is also reported to read as 369 lb-ft which is again a 44 lb-ft improvement when compared to current figures.
“Emissions are important for us,” said Porsche's engineering chief, Wolfgang Hatz, “And we will reduce faster than the industry. Every new model will have lower CO2 than before. There aren’t so many technologies to do it, and turbos come across as our best bet, yet. And then, at the end of the decade, electrification has to be the next huge step.”
So, this shows that the new turbo engine is not only employed to have better power and torque but they would also ensure better fuel economy and decreased CO2 emissions. This facelifted 911 is expected to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around 4.3 seconds with PDK transmission, while the Carrera S would complete the same race in 4 seconds. With all such updates, it can be said that Porsche 911 is surely going to make you feel posh with its better performance and stature.
