Still a prototype, but the RTR trim shaped up to be a drift-happy ride

MANILA: Ford has previewed a new high-performance Mustang variant at the ongoing 2025 Detroit Motor Show.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What engine does the Ford Mustang RTR use?
The Ford Mustang RTR uses the same 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine as the EcoBoost Mustang. What is the price of the Philippine-spec Ford Mustang EcoBoost Premium?
The Philippine-spec Ford Mustang EcoBoost Premium is priced at P3.499 million.Named the Mustang RTR, it is still a prototype. Regardless, it made waves during the event when its capabilities were showcased with burnouts and donuts while being piloted by two-time drift champion and RTR Vehicles President and Founder Vaughn Gittin, Jr.
Per Ford, the Mustang RTR will share plenty of performance parts with the Mustang Dark Horse, though it is based on the four-cylinder EcoBoost Mustang. And, of course, its design comes with heaps of input from RTR - a team with years of experience in the Formula Drift championships.

For now, the complete specifications of the RTR trim are yet to be provided by the Blue Oval brand. Nevertheless, the pictures of the car show that it wears a set of Hyper Line Brembo brake calipers, RTR’s signature LED daytime running lamps, a more aggressive-looking front end, and many other improvements.
Plus, the American carmaker mentioned that its drift capabilities will rely heavily on the “electronic drift brake,” which is already available on the regular seventh-generation Mustang.
As a side note, the Mustang RTR marks the second time Ford developed a production model with an outside partner.
“From Mustang GTD to Mustang Dark Horse to the new Mustang RTR, there’s a high-performance pony for every Mustang fan and customer,” Vice President and Ford Product Development lead Jim Baumbick said.

“The RTR team has so much passion and experience on and off the track that we’ve partnered to develop the most exciting, enthusiast-focused EcoBoost Mustang ever,” Baumbick added.
Ford has yet to announce the exact launch date of the Mustang RTR, but its pre-production prototype is currently on display at the 2025 Detroit Auto Show in Michigan, USA, until January 20, 2025.
In the Philippines, the currently available versions of the Ford Mustang include the EcoBoost Premium trim, which retails at P3.499 million, and the GT Premium, which is priced at P3.999 million.
