Forum post speculates Toyota GR86 '10th-anniversary model' in the works

MANILA: To mark the first decade of the Toyota 86 nameplate, Toyota will reportedly release a 10th anniversary edition based on the current iteration of the sports coupe, according to a speculation from the Nissan Z forum. 

The Toyota GR86's counterpart the Subaru BRZ will, of course, also mark its 10th year. 

The forum post shares documents sent from Subaru North America to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) detailing how to decipher the VINs on 2023 Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ units bound for the US.

In the trim level and option section of the GR86 documents are specified two versions of a 10th-anniversary edition equipped with and without the EyeSight safety option, the post added. 

However, the documents for the GR86 and BRZ do not disclose the exterior specifications or unit quantity of the purported anniversary models, the post said. 

Similar to the previous 86, the GR86 was jointly produced with the new BRZ. Under the car’s hood is a horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine that delivers a maximum power output of 235ps at 7,000rpm and a maximum torque of 250Nm at 3,700rpm. The engine displacement size was increased from 2.0 liters to 2.4 liters.

The vehicle’s new powertrain enables the car’s capability to accelerate from zero to 100kph in just 6.3 seconds. TGR has also improved the engine responsiveness of the new GR86 to achieve smooth sensations from low to high rpms.

To reduce the vehicle's weight, the GR86 is built with aluminum roof panels to lower the center of gravity, and aluminum fenders and upgraded front seats and mufflers. 

The new GR86 comes in six-speed manual and automatic variants. The automatic version uses Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology that offers safety support in regular driving, pre-collision safety technologies that prevent or lessen crash impacts, and emergency rescue support and secondary collision avoidance support that are useful in the event of an accident.
