Free snacks for vaccinated port passengers until Aug. 20
MANILA: To encourage more Filipinos to get vaccinated against COVID-19, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is giving away free snacks to inoculated passengers at PPA port terminals across the country. This initiative is in line with the directive of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade to support the government’s program to curb the spread of the viral disease.
PPA General Manager Jay Santiago has issued a memorandum that orders all port managers to give vaccinated passengers free snacks in all PPA port terminals from August 3 to 20, 2021.
In the memorandum, Santiago stated, “In support of the government’s COVID-19 vaccination program, and in consonance with the mandate of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) to keep its ports safe, you are directed to make available free light snacks for all vaccinated passengers passing through terminals under your area of responsibility.”
Passengers who have gotten the required number of COVID-19 vaccine doses or even partial doses are eligible for the free snacks at the PPA port terminals.
Secretary Tugade has also commanded the Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT-2), Manila Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3), and the Philippine National Railways (PNR) to provide free rides to inoculated passengers and authorized persons outside residence (APOR) starting August 3 until August 20, 2021.
“Ang inisyatibong ito ay napagkasunduan ng buong Kagawaran ng Transportasyon upang makatulong sa pagpapanatili ng kalusugan at kaligtasan ng ating mga kababayan, at upang matulungan ang gobyerno na mahikayat ang ating mga kababayan na magpabakuna (This initiative was agreed upon by the Department of Transportation as a whole for the health and safety of our countrymen and to help the government encourage the public to get vaccinated),” Tugade said.
To avail of the free snacks, port passengers must present proof of vaccination with their names and date of vaccination.
Secretary Tugade also commanded the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) to give away free snacks to vaccinated passengers while waiting for their flights in airports nationwide.
