Geely Holding-owned brands nearly miss 1.5-M sales mark in H1 2024

MANILA: Brands owned by the Geely Holding Group cumulatively reached a total sales of 1,493,715 units from January to June — nearly missing the 1.5 million mark.

When broken down, the Geely Auto brand — which includes other marques like Zeekr and Lynk and Co. — has reported overall sales of 955,730 in the first six months of 2024. Of which, 187,047 cars were battery-electric vehicles while 133,138 units were plug-in hybrids.

“Based on the strong performance of the company in the first half of 2024, Geely Auto has revised its annual target by approximately five percent from 1.9 million to two million units,” the consortium said.

Volvo Cars, on the other hand, managed to sell some 388,073 cars globally in the same time period. Out of the said number, 90,760 were fully-electric Volvo cars while 82,908 were plug-in hybrid vehicles. Some 69,679 were mild hybrids and internal combustion engine-equipped models.

“Thanks mainly to the strong performance of the brand in Europe and Latin America as well as its fully electric EX30 model, electrified vehicle sales for Volvo reached 173,668 units so far in the year, a year-on-year increase of 27 percent,” the Geely Holding Group stated in a press release.

Meanwhile, Proton managed to turn over 386,600 units to its customers in the first half of 2024. Per the Geely Holding Group, the brand was able to hold its foothold and become the second largest vehicle seller in Malaysia with a market share figure of 19.1 percent.

“With the launch of the refreshed 2024 Proton X50, the brand regained its leadership position in the B-segment SUV (sport utility vehicle) market in June,” the conglomerate noted.
