Geely Icon goes on sale, gets anti-coronavirus air filtration system
MANILA: Geely Icon, the compact sports utility vehicle (SUV), which was fully revealed by the Hong Kong-headquartered company in November, has finally gone on sale. The Icon is underpinned by the same B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA) as its stablemate Binuye. The Icon, however, scores better in terms of looks. It has a boxy, albeit futuristic design inspired by 8-bit graphics.
The Icon’s front is dominated by an ‘expanding cosmos’ grille which spans across the entire fascia. The main, vertical headlights flank the fascia and Geely claims that it has improved lighting efficiency by 30 percent. A slim air intake channel flanks the headlights. The clamshell bonnets have vents, while lower down there’s another pair of rectangular air inlets. The Icon has blacked-out pillars though the vehicle’s bodywork rises upwards at the back. The rectangular taillights are a bit larger than what was seen on the concept car.
The Geely Icon is hauled by a 3-cylinder, turbocharged 1.5-litre engine which produces 176PS maximum power and 255Nm peak torque. The car also gets a 48V mild hybrid system. With the hybrid unit running, the car outputs 190PS maximum power and 300Nm peak torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) like the Proton X70. The Icon, according to Geely, can reach 0-100kmph in 7.9 seconds.
The interior of the Geely Icon has air vents, a layered dashboard, and a rather tall central console. There’s a neat storage space below the console, along with a wireless smartphone charging unit in front of the gear lever. The dashboard is dominated by a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Another 10.25-inch screen displays the instrument cluster. The centre screen runs the Geely Key User Interface (GKUI) which debuted in the Bouye Pro, while a 360-degree camera displays the rear, side and the front of the car.
The Icon has a N-95 certified air purification unit which the company rapidly developed following the outbreak of the coronavirus endemic. Other features on its specs sheet includes - pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and autonomous parking.
