Get a ‘Gazoo-fied’ Toyota Vios for P1.02-M

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) gives the country’s bestselling sedan its sportiest iteration yet. The Toyota Vios, which has sold more than 340,000 units in the country, has been given the hallowed Toyota Gazoo Racing motorsports treatment through the Vios GR-S.

In a release, TMP said that “the motorsports-inspired reinvention… infuses upgraded design and new features to the country’s most-preferred sedan.”

TMP President Atsuhiro Okamoto introduced the Vios GR-S as “the country’s most trusted model, injected with GR spirit.” He added, “Our goal with the Vios GR-S is to transform your reliable everyday car into a Vios that gives a more pleasurable drive, whether on track or on the road. The Vios GR-S will bring next-level thrill in your everyday drive.”

The new Vios GR-S (with the suffix referring to Gazoo Racing Sport) is fitted with a more aggressive-looking bumper and grille, along with an aerokit and spoiler. Inside, the variant gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching. The same look is assumed by the shift lever and knob. The seats also get the distinct red stitching, and are covered in a suede/synthetic leather blend.

Owing to exterior changes, the GR-S measures 4,467 millimeters (42mm longer than other Vios variants). Its width remains at 1,730mm and height at 1,475mm. Under the hood is the familiar 1.5-liter 2NR-FE engine delivering 107ps (at 6,000rpm) and 140Nm (at 4,200rpm). However, the GR-S driver can access the performance via a 10-speed CVT transmission.

The Vios GR-S is equipped with seven SRS airbags and clearance sonars. The car’s infotainment system features smartphone app access plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The Toyota Vios GR-S will be available at all TMP dealerships starting Monday, March 15.

TMP will hold an online public launch this Saturday, March 13, at 6 p.m. on Toyota’s official Facebook page and YouTube channel. The Vios GR-S is priced as follows:

TMP is also “looking forward to promote Toyota Gazoo Racing products, services, and experiences in the country.” The company is gearing to restage its one-make race, now named the Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Cup, by July “provided it is deemed safe by authorities to hold events of such nature.”
