GWM Tank 500 gets 5-star ANCAP rating

MANILA: The GWM (Great Wall Motor) Tank 500 — a slightly longer version of Tank 300 (available in the Philippine market) — has earned a five-star rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

Following the test conducted by the vehicle safety organization in the region, the Chinese automaker’s large sport utility vehicle got the highest rating after it secured the following scores under various categories:

•  85 percent in adult occupant protection
• 93 percent in child occupant protection
• 81 percent in vulnerable road user protection
• 84 percent in safety assist

Per ANCAP, the rating that the GWM Tank received applies to all hybrid variants.

Among the safety technologies that the GWM Tank 500 have are the dual front, side chest-protecting and side head-protecting, and center airbags, autonomous emergency braking system (car-to-Car, vulnerable road user, junction and crossing, backover and head-on), lane support system with lane keep assist, lane departure warning, emergency lane keep, and a speed assistance system.

However, ANCAP noted that the GWM Tank 500 in the region has top tether anchorages for child restraints in the third row.

The organization added it is “not suitable for transporting young children in the third row.”

Powering the GWM Tank 500 is a 2.0T Hybrid mill with four-wheel-drive system.

In the country, GWM Philippines is retailing the Tank 300.

The turbocharged gasoline-powered version features an anti-lock braking system with brakeforce distribution, automatic emergency brakes with vehicle, pedestrian, bicycle, and junction assist, traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with intelligent cruise assist, among others.

Available in two color options namely the Iceberg White and Jet Black, the Tank 300 can be had at P2.678 million.
