Harman & Hyundai give the GV80 first-ever active road noise cancellation system
MANILA: The Genesis GV80 came out in the flesh not so long ago. While we already talked about the major peculiarities that the South Korean luxury SUV has onboard, we will today talk about one of the most interesting, high-tech, and first on the planet features that the Genesis GV80 comes sporting. Hyundai, the parent company that owns Genesis, has worked in tandem with Harman, a Samsung company, in order to develop the world’s first active road noise cancellation system. In addition to that, the system that is called Road-Noise Active Noise Control (RANC) will make way to the Genesis GV80, making the luxury SUV the first-ever production car to flaunt the feature.
The much-advanced system is responsible for providing the occupants with a calm and silent cabin by eliminating the undesired sounds generating from the tyres and road surfaces. Furthermore, the system takes advantage of Harman’s HALOsonic suite of noise management technologies and gathers data from the acceleration sensors, which are placed on the suspension and chassis of the vehicle.
The data is then channelled to the RANC control processor that generates real-time anti-noise wave to cancel out the noise. Even though the abovementioned active noise cancellation involves a few steps, the processing is actually completed in not more than a few milliseconds.
Moving, the setup also incorporates error microphones, which are assigned the duty of keeping an eye on the performance of the RNAC system. These error microphones make sure that the RNAC system is providing an evenly spread noise-free environment throughout the interior of the car. The RNAC system works similarly to a pair of headphones with active noise-cancelling. Hyundai states that since new cars use stiff suspension setups along with wide low-profile tyres, more road noise is generated and the RNAC system will help in reducing the same and offer the occupants a noise-free, calm, and quiet experience inside the cabin.
