Honda & Acura Owners Listen up - NHTSA Issues Immediate Recall
MANILA: Remember Takata, the infamous Japanese auto supplier, who in the recent past was single handedly held responsible for million of car recalls. Well, the said company has already created much nuisance in the auto arena and the same has resulted in the end of its corporate relationship with big brands like Nissan, Toyota, and Mazda. But the after effects of Takata's ill-manufactured airbags is still going strong and has led car companies to face massive turbulence in the form of repeated recalls and heavy repair and replacement cost. Well, once again a recall has been initiated by National Highway Transport Safety Administration and unlike its previous recalls, this one is a bit urgent.
Auto Brands falling prey of Takata ill-manufactured airbags -
This time around it’s Honda and Acura that are bound to recall as many as 313,000 cars that are fitted with badly manufactured airbags, injurious to the life of drivers.
What exactly is the problem with Takata-built airbags?
Investigations have revealed that airbags were built under Takata's roof lacked moisture absorbing material, which is causing airbags to deploy violently and faster than they should. The problem further intensifies when the car is exposed to extreme heat and humidity, for the obvious reasons (lack of absorption material). According to NHTSA, the rupture rate this time around is as high as 50% and Honda is trying to inform owners through every possible means like mail, ads, texts and the company is also hiring private detectives to find stray cars.
What is the intensity of the recall?
Well, the said recall is mainly restricted to the U.S and both the government and Honda are taking unusual steps to inform consumers as fast as they can. Also, they are warning owners to stop commuting in the concerned vehicles and also bring them for an immediate check. According to NHTSA, ‘vehicles contain a manufacturing defect which greatly increases the potential for dangerous rupture'.
