Honda Cars PH recalls select units for faulty fuel pump, steering gearbox

MANILAHonda Cars Philippines (HCPI) is recalling select units for possible faulty high-pressure fuel pumps and steering gearboxes.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How many Honda units in the Philippines are affected by the safety recall on high-pressure fuel pumps?

HCPI said that 1,351 local units shall be subject to inspection for possible faulty high-pressure fuel pumps.
  • How many Honda units locally are affected by the steering gearbox safety recall?

Approximately 5,505 Honda vehicles are being recalled in the Philippines due to steering gearbox-related concerns.
  • The Japanese automotive manufacturer’s distributor in the country launched the safety order as it “places great value on its customers’ safety and wants to ensure that no Honda products running on the road could harm anyone.”

    High-pressure fuel pump issue

Per HCPI, the company is recalling select CR-V RS e:HEV E-CVT units from year models 2023-2024 for probable cracks on the Core B, which may result to customers smelling gasoline fumes while idling or even driving.

Around 1,351 affected local units shall be subject to inspection, which will be conducted free of charge.

To recall, the sixth-generation Honda CR-V was revealed in September 2023.

    Steering gearbox recall

On the other hand, around 5,505 units in the country are also being recalled due to steering gearbox-related concerns.

According to HCPI, affected units have snagging, unusual sound and vibration while turning due to the lessened amount of grease in the worm gear.

Because of this, the sliding resistance in the meshing area of the electric power steering gearbox increases and the torque fluctuation becomes larger while turning the steering wheel.

“This results in an unusual sound and an unsmooth turn from steering while turning or ‘sticky steering’ that might make the driver feel a sense of unease,” the firm explained.

HCPI noted that replacement parts and labor under the voluntary recall shall also be free of charge.

To recall, HCPI has made a safety recall for the 2022 Honda Civic in March 2024 for a similar issue.

HCPI claimed that no accidents or any cases related to either of the recall have been reported in the country. HCPI also apologizes for any inconvenience that the recalls may cause.

All affected customers are urged to avail inspection/replacements for these affected parts. Owners may go to any of the 38 Honda Cars dealerships and three Service Centers nationwide.

Customers can verify if their vehicle is affected by encoding its 17-digit Chassis Number or Vehicle Identification Number in the Chassis/VIN search tool of the recall information webpage at www.hondaphil.com/recall. Customers can also contact Honda’s customer service hotline, 1-800-1000-HONDA (46632) or (02) 857-7240 between 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Mondays-Fridays, or email update@hondaphil.com for further assistance.
