Honda Civic Teaser Video Hints to an Early 2016 Honda Civic launch in the Philippines
Update: The top end variant for Civic 2016, branded as the Civic RS will be offered with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC powertrain. The new engine is also supplied with a turbocharger that helps it put out nearly 173 hp @ 5500 RPM and 220 nm of torque @ 1700-5500 rpm. Honda Civic Engine choice for the RS certainly raises a lot of questions, as the standard variant is supplied with a larger 1.8-litre mill coupled with a turbocharger produces much higher power. How the RS version excels is the included CVT gearbox that provides a significant boost in driving comfort allowing for more versatile driving styles. Honda Civic price also leaked recently, with the regular variant standing at PhP 1.1 million and RS offered at PhP 1.3 million.
MANILA: So, at last, we hear something straight from the horse's mouth that is entirely the Philippines centric. A Civic teaser video was posted by Honda Philippines on its twitter page that strongly hinted towards a soon 2016 Honda Civic launch. Adding to the glory of the Chinese New Year. In addition to the all new Honda Civic, the list of Honda Philippines launch 2016 includes cars like – Honda Pilot that is said to greet the land in late-February and Honda BR-V that was recently launched at the Auto Expo 2016.
Well, Honda Civic is not a new name for the Philippines market and has been around for a while now. With its head to toe revamped version coming on the right time when Filipinos are long waiting to see a transformed version of the same. Where the present Civic is available with a 1.8L and 2.0L mill, the all new Civic engine spec as per the U.S. model includes a 1.5L turbo and 2.0L i-VTEC mill. The 1.5L DOHC direct-injection 4-CYL engine is efficient than the previous 1.8L mill, as it churns out 174 hp @ 5500 rpm and 227 Nm @ 1800-5500 rpm. The Civic 2.0 turbo engine earlier available with Honda Civic Type R, is new for Civic sedan version with its joining revealed only a few days back. The said mill will generate 158 hp @ 6500 rpm of maximum power along with peak torque of 187 Nm @ 4200 rpm. Coming to the transmission part, the 1.5L mill will come paired with Continuously Variable Transmission, while the 2.0L engine comes paired with both 6-speed manual gearbox and Continuously Variable Transmission.
Dimensions are now revised with the new version, now measuring 4630 mm long, 1415 mm wide and 1798 mm high with the wheelbase measuring 2700 mm, giving the car full score on the exterior and interior front.
Design wise, the 2015 and 2016 Honda Civic are way apart, the latter one is looking more stylish, angular and modern. At the front are present Projector-Beam Halogen headlight, smooth extended bumper, front fender integrated turn indicators, making it look class apart. On to the side the new Civic now gets similar roof line, but it now has body-colored door handles and decklid spoiler, and re-deigned 16/17 alloy wheels. The rear end has become very attractive with sloppier rear windscreen and never-seen before taillight design that now extends to the trunk lid.
If one looks at the 2016 Civic interior spec in the U.S market, he will be surely mesmerized. As the car now carries some high-tech features like tilt and telescopic steering, sliding armrest, rear seat heater ducts, push button start dual zone automatic climate control system and the list goes on. On the entertainment front the car carries 7-inch audio system with high resolution, electronic touch screen and customizable feature settings.
Coming out as a strong competitor to the likes of Chevrolet Cruze, Toyota Corolla, and Mazda 3, the new Civic sedan will surely prove to be a successful alternative. Though speculated to be is bit heavy on the pocket, it will be very worth of its penny.
