Honda CR-V gets a Mugen body kit

MANILA: Body kits have always been a thing to admire. Once the carmakers bring out new cars, their modification units and other after-market modifiers start rolling out some slick body kits for the cars. It was the year 2017, when Honda revealed the newest iteration of the compact crossover CR-V and then in August 2018, Modulo came up with a body kit for the CR-V which also included some tweaks inside the car. Now Mugen, which is the in-house modification unit of Honda, has released a body kit for the CR-V.

Reminiscent to the one unveiled by Modulo a few months earlier, this body kit by Mugen is a lot huskier and provides the crossover with a bold and hefty look. A redesigned bumper along with an attractive grille up front are the first changes one would notice on the CR-V. For better aerodynamics, Mugen has also equipped the crossover with an under-spoiler at the front. Providing with a ‘unified look and presence’ are the new side skirts. Complimenting the side skirts is an under-spoiler at the rear as well. Another notable addition at the rear is a wing mounted on the tailgate.

Boasting a 7-spoke design and a dual tone finish are the new 19-inch aluminium-alloy wheels which have been given a title of “MDR” by Mugen. These alloys measure 19 x 7 ½ and wear 235/55 tyres. Finished in either silver or black, nut and locks for the wheels are also being offered by Mugen. With a ‘white, red and gold’ tri-bar color scheme, there are new floor mats inside the CR-V along with a sports luggage mat at the rear.

All the exterior bits including the 19-inch 7-spoke dual tone wheels are priced at JPY 408,240, which translates to about Php 194,520. The wheel nut & lock set finished in silver and black is priced at JPY 8,100 (roughly Php 3,890) and JPY 9,504 (roughly Php 4,530), respectively. One can have the Mugen floor mats for the 7-seater variant of the CR-V for JPY 51,840 (roughly Php 24,700) whereas the floor mats for the 5-seater CR-V cost JPY 43,200 (roughly Php 20,585). For both the 5-seater and the 7-seater CR-V, the sports luggage has been given a price tag of JPY 22,680 (roughly Php 10,810).

Honda or Mugen, however, have not revealed any intentions of bringing the stylish body kit in other markets where the CR-V is offered. All we can do is wait for an official announcement. Until then, keep driving the Honda CR-V the way it is.
