The Hyundai Ioniq 6 was also named World Electric Vehicle of the Year and World Car Design of the Year.
  • What are the notable features of the Hyundai Ioniq 6?

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 has 800V ultra-fast charging capabilities for a 10% to 80% charge in just 18 minutes. WLTP-rated range of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 on a single charge is 614km.
  • Aside from the prestigious overall title, the “Electrified Streamliner” was also named World Electric Vehicle of the Year and World Car Design of the Year, recognized for its exceptional all-electric range and distinctive aerodynamic design.

A jury of 100 automotive journalists from 32 different countries picked the Hyundai Ioniq 6 among the top three contenders, which were all launched in 2022. This is Hyundai's second consecutive triple honors at the World Car Awards. Last year, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 won in the same categories.

“We are thrilled to receive this prestigious honor two years in a row, which recognizes the tremendous talents and unrelenting efforts of everyone at Hyundai Motor Company to bring EVs like Hyundai Ioniq 6 to market. This honor reinforces our commitment to be a global leader in vehicle electrification and will serve to embolden our efforts as a smart mobility solutions provider,” Hyundai Motor Company President and Chief Executive Officer Jaehoon Chang stated.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is the second model in Hyundai's all-electric lineup brand, Ioniq. It fully utilizes the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) architecture, providing 800V ultra-fast charging capabilities for a 10% to 80% charge in just 18 minutes and a roomy interior.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is characterized by clean lines and a pure aerodynamic form that Hyundai designers refer to as “Emotional Efficiency.” It was inspired by Hyundai's Prophecy EV Concept. A new generation of electric mobility is embodied by the Hyundai Ioniq 6's electrified streamliner typology and thoughtful cocoon-like interior, and the overall design concept of “Ethical Uniqueness” underlines Hyundai's customer-focused commitment to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 showcases ethical and innovative design through the use of sustainable materials and high energy efficiency. The interior space and exterior form were developed simultaneously since the design was human-centric from the beginning. Efforts were made to maximize the interior space, stretching it at the front and rear.

One of the most aerodynamic and energy-efficient electric vehicles on the global market, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 has an extremely low drag coefficient of just 0.21. The WLTP-rated range of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 on a single charge is 614km. The WLTP-rated energy consumption of the standard 2WD model with 18-inch tires is 13.9kWh/100km.

Among the many features of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 are Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, driver assistance systems, and advanced connectivity with over-the-air (OTA) software updates. The spacious and ergonomic cabin makes the most of the 2,950mm wheelbase. It features Electric Active Sound Design (e-ASD), Dual Color Ambient Lighting, Speed Sync Lighting, and EV Performance Tune-up, improving the electric mobility experience.

Hyundai Design Center Executive Vice President and Head SangYup Lee was also awarded as the 2023 World Car Person of the Year by the World Car Awards jury for his significant role in the most remarkable and cutting-edge concept and production cars unveiled in 2022, including the Hyundai Ioniq 6, the all-new Hyundai Kona, and the Hyundai N Vision 74 rolling lab.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 has also received accolades in the previous months, including New Car of the Year from Le Guide de l'auto and Saloon of the Year from the 2023 GQ Car Awards. Furthermore, it received a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP and was chosen as the “Best in Class” large family car.

The achievements of the Ioniq brand this year will bolster Hyundai Motor's efforts to advance its electrification strategy and establish itself as the leading electric vehicle manufacturer worldwide. Hyundai Motor aims to increase annual global battery electric vehicle sales to 1.87 million units by 2030 by launching 17 new battery electric vehicle models, including luxury brand Genesis models.
