  • The independent vehicle assessment organization had its busiest year ever, testing 66 new passenger cars. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 was recognized as “Best in Class” in the Large Family Car category, reaffirming the Korean carmaker's leadership in the electric vehicle market.

“This latest Euro NCAP ‘Best in Class’ 2022 title for Ioniq 6 follows on from last year’s maximum five-star safety rating, and proves that it is one of the safest EVs on the European market. Hyundai is committed to providing all road users with the highest level of safety, while at the same time offering innovative mobility solutions to our customers. This latest accolade by Euro NCAP underscores our industry-leading position in the field of future mobility,” Hyundai Motor Europe Vice President for Marketing, Product, and Public Relations Andreas-Christoph Hofmann stated.

The weighted sum of the scores in each of the four assessment categories — Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road User Protection, and Safety Assist — was used to determine the winner of the Euro NCAP “Best in Class” title. Vehicles qualify for the award based only on their rating with standard safety equipment.

After receiving a positive result in its Euro NCAP safety test last year, the Ioniq 6 has won in the Large Family Car category. The latest model of Hyundai's all-electric Ioniq lineup was reported to have received the maximum five-star rating in November 2022. It received “exceptionally high results” in Adult Occupant Protection with a score of 97%, claiming the top spot in the category.

The Ioniq 6 also received high marks from the vehicle assessment organization in the field of Child Occupant Protection, where it got 87%.

“Ioniq 6 provided good protection for all critical body regions of both the six- and 10-year dummies in the frontal offset and side barrier tests and scored maximum points in this part of the assessment,” Euro NCAP said in a statement.

The Ioniq 6 also scored highly in the Safety Assist section, receiving a score of 90%.

The latest generation of Hyundai Smart Sense Advanced Driver Assistance Systems is included in the Hyundai Ioniq 6, offering the highest levels of road safety and convenience. These include Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2), which helps the driver maintain a predetermined distance and speed from the vehicle in front while driving on a highway. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 can do Level 2 autonomous driving, thanks to this feature.

Another remarkable feature is the Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), which emulates the driver's developed driving style, assists in maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front while maintaining the speed set. Additionally, it optimizes automated driving and adjusts speed for safe driving through corners and intersections using the navigation system's road information. Furthermore, the Ioniq 6 comes standard with seven airbags, one of which is located in the center of the driver's seat for additional passive safety.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6, which Hyundai refers to as a “Electrified Streamliner,” is based on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) of the Hyundai Motor Group. It comes with a number of cutting-edge technologies and a roomy, customer-centric cabin. It pushes the limits of electric mobility with an extended range of up to 614km on a single charge, with the 800V ultra-fast charging delivering up to 350 of those kilometers in just 15 minutes.

The Ioniq 6 is aerodynamically shaped and uses sustainable materials in clever ways to represent the values of today's electric vehicle customers.

It is characterized by clean lines and a pure aerodynamic form that Hyundai designers refer to as “Emotional Efficiency.” It was inspired by Hyundai's Prophecy EV Concept. A new generation of electric mobility is embodied by the Ioniq 6's electrified streamliner typology and thoughtful cocoon-like interior, and the overall design concept of “Ethical Uniqueness” underlines Hyundai's customer-focused commitment to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 showcases ethical and innovative design through the use of sustainable materials and high energy efficiency. The interior space and exterior form were developed simultaneously since the design was human-centric from the beginning. Efforts were made to maximize the interior space, stretching it at the front and rear, resulting in a unique streamliner profile and a roomy cabin.

Like the award-winning Ioniq 5, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 employs the Hyundai Look design philosophy, which gives each model a distinctive appearance. As a customer-centric company, Hyundai designs with diverse lifestyles in mind rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
