The Hyundai Ioniq 5 landed on the podium in Autobest's Ecobest Challenge 2022 and was awarded as Esquire's 2022 Car of the Year. These recent accolades further prove that Hyundai's customer-centric automotive design continues to set the trend for electric vehicles, with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 already contributing to the rise of electric mobility in Europe since 2021.
The Ecobest award is given to the best electric vehicles hitting the market in the upcoming year. It is chosen by a 31-member independent jury composed of top motoring writers and experts representing 31 different European countries and a market of more than 750 million people.
“The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is a ground-breaking new EV that brings concept car thinking to European showrooms from early 2023. The ultra-aerodynamic philosophy takes low-drag ideals to a new level, a concept that not only offers an electric range of more than 600km, but also delivers a striking streamliner styling that is guaranteed to stand out. This bold, intelligent new Hyundai is an authentic piece of technology. As the Ecobest award has always set the example for others to follow, we believe this will be the first of many for Ioniq 6,” Autobest Founder and Chairman Dan Vardie stated.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is based on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) of the Hyundai Motor Group. It comes with a number of cutting-edge technologies and a roomy, customer-centric cabin. It pushes the limits of electric mobility with an extended range of up to 614km on a single charge, with the 800V ultra-fast charging delivering up to 350 of those kilometers in just 15 minutes.
The Electrified Streamliner has a drag coefficient of just 0.21, which is made possible by its extremely low wind resistance. With ample legroom, practical features, and environmentally friendly materials, its cocoon-shaped interior doubles as a cozy hideaway and a personal space to support responsible, eco-friendly mobility.
Autobest also released the results of its Ecobest Challenge 2022, a real-world, independent test of mainstream electric vehicles' sustainability credentials. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 attained the joint-second fastest time in the 350kw DC fast-charging test, in which all vehicles charged their battery capacities from 20% to 80%. It was also the third fastest to add 100km of range, demonstrating the vehicle's innovative application of cutting-edge technologies that helped redefine the limits of electric mobility.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 further strengthened its position as the top CUV in the world when it was crowned as Esquire's 2022 Car of the Year. A slew of other electric vehicles, SUVs, and supercars competed for the prestigious title, but the Hyundai Ioniq 5 triumphed, thanks to its “rare combination of utility and original design in a car made for the masses.”
“The Ioniq 5 embraces clean design and simplicity over opulence in a world where many cars seem to have gone through a maximalist design-by-committee machine. It feels just right. Remember when you unboxed your first iPhone? That’s what it feels like to get into an Ioniq 5 for the first time,” Esquire Culture and Lifestyle Director Kevin Sintumuang said.
Hyundai's growing commitment to sustainability and innovation, as well as its ongoing transformation into a Smart Mobility Solution Provider, are all reflected in the Hyundai Ioniq lineup. It delivers electrified experiences that are essential to an eco-friendly way of life by blending life-changing mobility with sustainability impact and a focus on connected living.
