Hyundai N Vision 74 Concept unveiled at 2022 Automobility LA

MANILA: The Hyundai N Vision 74 hydrogen fuel cell hybrid concept made its US debut at Automobility LA on Thursday. The electrification strategy of the Hyundai N sub-brand is highlighted in this futuristic concept, emphasizing the company's commitment to zero-emissions technologies. It is built on the “Rolling Lab” concept, a testbed for emerging technology seeking the driver's highest level of emotional engagement. The N brand is able to test the most cutting-edge technologies in both production car development and motorsport, thanks to this tactical strategy.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the design features of the Hyundai N Vision 74?

The Hyundai N Vision 74 pays tribute to the Hyundai Pony Coupe concept from 1974. The 1974 Hyundai Pony Coupe concept's clean surfaces, dynamically proportioned shape, and distinctive B-pillar were carried over to Hyundai N Vision 74, while Parametric Pixel lighting adds a futuristic touch.
  • What powers the Hyundai N Vision 74?

The Hyundai N Vision 74 is powered by independent, rear-mounted motors that generate 500kW of power.
  • Even though hydrogen fuel cell power was once considered to be a dream, the Hyundai N Vision 74 symbolizes seven years of scientific advancement and the N brand's promise to create an optimistic future for car enthusiasts, regardless of propulsion type. N brand is fostering innovation for the entire company by utilizing the pinnacle of Hyundai's cutting-edge technology, design, and high performance.

The Hyundai N Vision 74 pays tribute to the Hyundai Pony Coupe concept from 1974, created by renowned auto designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. The 1974 Hyundai Pony Coupe concept's clean surfaces, dynamically proportioned shape, and distinctive B-pillar were carried over to Hyundai N Vision 74, while Parametric Pixel lighting adds a futuristic touch.

Hyundai engineers created a special hydrogen hybrid architecture that combines a battery-electric powertrain with an FCEV system in an all-new layout that is exclusive to the Hyundai N Vision 74. To reduce overall height and center of gravity, a 62.4kWh T-type battery is installed at the bottom of the fuel cell stack, which has an output of 85kW (maximum 95kW). The battery's high-speed charging architecture operates at 800V.

Independent, rear-mounted motors, one per wheel, produce 500kW of power. This enables engineers to precisely control how much power is sent to the left and right wheels. The Hyundai N Vision 74 may be configured with multiple differential settings that are perfect for track driving, thanks to the ability to precisely and swiftly modify power distribution.

The 9.3lb capacity hydrogen fuel tanks located at the rear of the Hyundai N Vision 74 can be fueled up within five minutes. The Hyundai N Vision 74 also has dual charging capability. The 62kWh battery is charged by the 85kW fuel cell, which transforms hydrogen into power. The battery also utilizes the 800V battery technology from Hyundai's e-GMP platform with fast-charging capability. Fuel and charging ports for both hydrogen and electricity allow flexibility for various situations, such as spirited driving on the freeway or performance driving on racetracks.

Delivering the driver's ultimate driving emotion even in challenging track conditions is one of the major development goals of the Hyundai N Vision 74. The unique hydrogen hybrid architecture of the Hyundai N Vision 74 poses special heat management issues. The battery, fuel cell, and motor each have three separate cooling channels, allowing for maximum energy efficiency and resistance to performance degradation. The Hyundai N Vision 74 must perform consistently in order to fulfill its claim of driving engagement.
