Hyundai PH scholar is now UP Diliman Applied Physics degree holder
MANILA: HARI. Foundation, Inc.’s (HFI) Hyundai New Thinkers Circuit (HNTC) scholar Christine Joy Reloza has graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics Major in Instrumentation from the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
To date, HNTC has four scholars who were able to make it successfully to their preferred science courses. Two of them are from UP Diliman, one from UP Los Baños, and one from Ateneo de Manila University.
HNTC, which was introduced in 2014 as a leading program of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the HFI, was created to discover and train eligible public high school students to become innovators and leaders for the purpose of combating climate change.
The program includes exploration activities, boot camps, and conferences in the popular nature spots of the country. Its main goal is to exhibit groundbreaking projects from the participants that would aid in addressing climate change concerns of particular communities.
The culmination of the activities was the awarding of college scholarships to the top-performing candidates in the flagship universities of the country.
Reloza said, ““I will forever be deeply indebted to HARI for providing a space where I could nurture my talents and wisdom, and mold my career by financially supporting my college education. As a member of the science community, being a part of your program will always make me proud. Hyundai’s dedication to not just promote science education but to support brilliant young minds in pursuing careers related to science is truly remarkable. With this, I congratulate HARI Foundation for successfully producing graduates from top-performing schools over the years.”
HFI President Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo remarked, “It has been a particularly productive year for HARI Foundation. We have been actively supporting nationwide efforts to flatten the curve through our Biyahe ng Bayani COVID response campaign. Despite the challenges, we continue our other efforts in the field of education and health, and now, the seeds that we planted years ago are beginning to bear fruit.”
As Christine Reloza is preparing for her pursuit of a career in data sciences, she shows a strong desire to apply the significant lessons she has learned from her HNTC experience--- to serve the Filipino people.
Last June, another HNTC scholar and a graduate of Valenzuela City Science High School, Bret Michaels de Leon, also finished his BS Environmental Science degree, cum laude. He is set to march during the commencement exercises of Ateneo de Manila University later this year.
