Hyundai teases the i20N, the hot hatch to make around 200 PS
MANILA: The all-new Hyundai i20 has started making rounds over the internet. Following the release production model images, engine details, and other stuff concerning the next-gen South Korean hatch, Hyundai has now teased the performance-oriented model of the upcoming i20 hatch. Teased by Hyundai Austria, the hot-hatch can be seen sporting a taller bonnet, WRC-type wheels, and a bigger spoiler.
Thanks to the bigger hood, the hatch should now be able to house a bigger engine as well. And, that means the i20N is all set to come housing a turbocharged petrol-fed motor. To be specific, it will most probably be the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol-fed engine that we have already seen on the South Korean automaker's Veloster. The mill churns out 204 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 265 Nm on the Veloster.
Once out in the flesh and on the roads, the Hyundai i20N will take on the likes of the Ford Fiesta ST, Volkswagen Polo GTI, and the Toyota GR Yaris in different markets across the planet. Some markets such as Australia are already interested in obtaining the hot hatch if Hyundai goes on to produce a right-hand-drive version. Since left-hand-drive models will be the standard product, will the Philippines get the all-new Hyundai i20N?
Well, only time will tell. Even India, where the Hyundai i20 cranks up some good sales figures, will not be receiving the all-new i20N. However, the Indian masses will get a standard i20 with a smaller 1.0-litre turbocharged motor that generates 120 PS of maximum power. Would you like that making its way to the Philippines? We bet you will.
