Hyundai to open new EV plant
MANILA: Hyundai Motor Company held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new electric vehicle (EV) plant in Ulsan, South Korea.

According to the Korean carmaker, the production platform will include artificial-intelligence-based control systems, low-carbon construction methods, and human-friendly amenities.
“The new EV-dedicated plant in Ulsan is the beginning of a promising future for the next 50 years and the era of electrification. I am honored to share our dream of a 100-year company here. Just as the dream of building the best car in the past made Ulsan an automotive city today, I trust Ulsan will be an innovative mobility city that leads the way in the era of electrification, starting with a dedicated EV plant,” Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chairman Euisun Chung stated.
Hyundai's new EV plant will cover 548,00 square meters and is expected to produce 200,000 vehicles annually.
Hyundai will invest around KRW2 million in the project, with the construction set to begin later this year. The project is expected to be completed by 2025, and production will start in 2026. The first model that will be manufactured in the facility is an electric sport utility vehicle from Hyundai Motor Group luxury brand Genesis.
The EV-dedicated facility will be Hyundai's first new plant in South Korea in almost three decades, after the inauguration of the Asan plant in 1996. It is positioned to strengthen the brand's electrification strategy and produce vehicles that go beyond the expectations of its valued customers.
