iOS 11's Do Not Disturb While Driving Feature will help Anti-Distracted Driving Act
MANILA: The Department Of Transportation (DOTr) and other related agencies are all geared up to implement the Anti-Distracted Act in an effective manner. To further back this act, fortunately, the recent iOS update by Apple features a “Do Not Disturb While Driving” mode, which will silence the notifications received on the phone to keep the driver focused on driving.
The new feature is introduced in the upcoming iOS 11 whose details were shared at the recently held Worldwide Developers Conference, in California. This feature will make driving much safer as the drivers will not be distracted with the notifications they receive while driving. When activated, the iPhone will detect when the user is in driving mode and automatically mute all the incoming notifications along with keeping the screen dark to prevent distraction.
A user can also set an auto-reply function for the contacts saved in Favourites with a default message indicating sender that the user is currently driving. This mode automatically enables the notifications ones you reach your destination. Users will also have the flexibility to indicate that they are not driving while moving on the road or sitting on the passenger seat in the car so that they can continue receiving the notifications.
While “Do Not Disturb While Driving” mode is activated, a driver can still use the Apple Maps but, it is not clear whether a user will be able to use third-party apps like Google Maps or not. The vehicles that are equipped with Apple CarPlay will be able to enjoy the iPhone apps via infotainment system installed. The particular feature will definitely help the authorities in implementing the Anti-Distracted Driving Act whose regulations are still under evaluation.
