Jeep EV for PH market 'possible'

MANILA: There is a possibility that an electrified Jeep would be offered in the Philippines.

Such information was shared by Jeep Philippines Product Planning Manager Amir Corpus to Zigwheels Philippines during the local launch of the 2024 Wrangler Rubicon.

However, Corpus admitted that the said EV model isn’t coming any time soon. 

“Yes, we are definitely looking into that, we’re definitely excited about it. But the entire region for Jeep is barely starting on the new energy program,” Corpus said. 

Regardless, Corpus already has an idea of what a possible Jeep EV could look like, and he is certain that the theoretical EV model will come in the guise of a dedicated 4x4 rig. 

“I haven’t seen the actual thing, but I have seen what it could look like and what it could be. Inchcape and Jeep Philippines are excited to eventually launch it. Of course, Jeep being a 4x4 brand, it’s going to be a dedicated 4x4 SUV with all that Jeep DNA, that Jeep design that everyone is looking for, and it’s going to be an electric vehicle,” Corpus added. 

Again, the Jeep Philippines executive cannot give an exact timetable for a future local EV model launch. Still, he ended the interview with a bit of optimism.

“Unfortunately, I cannot give you any dates, nor is it set in stone, but it is in the multiverse out there that we are going to get Jeep electric vehicles in the Philippines,” Corpus shared.  

In the context of the global market, the American off-road specialist is currently poised to launch the all-electric Wagoneer S in the second half of 2024. 

As stated previously by the brand through the upcoming model’s teaser, it can deliver up to 600 horsepower and can accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour in less than four seconds. 

The Stellantis-owned brand is also currently selling the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Plug-in Hybrid in other regions (North America, Europe) as its first-ever open-air sports utility vehicle.
