Jeep orders recall for Wrangler 4xe due to potential fire risk

MANILA: Stellantis is recalling around 32,125 United States-spec 2021-2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe due to a potential fire risk.

After conducting a routine review of customer data, the company facilitated an internal investigation and found out that eight units had caught fire while parked, six of which were being charged when the incident happened.

According to Stellantis, they are unaware of any related injuries.

“The vehicles may be driven. However, the company is advising owners to refrain from recharging these hybrid vehicles, and to park them away from structures and other vehicles, until they are remedied,” Stellantis reminds the owners of the affected models.

“The remedy involves a software flash. If a certain error code is observed, the battery pack will be replaced,” the car manufacturer added.

Stellantis also clarified that only the abovementioned Wrangler models are at risk.

The Wrangler 4xe combines the nameplate's unparalleled open-air freedom with an electrified powertrain that delivers class-leading efficiency. Jeep developed this model as part of its Zero Emission Freedom vision, aiming to become the world's most environmentally friendly sport utility vehicle (SUV) brand.

For the 2024 model year, the Wrangler 4xe comes with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that churns out 375 horsepower and 637 Newton-meters of torque. It is also equipped with a full-float Dana rear axle.

The SUV is designed with the new seven-slot grille, windshield-integrated trail-ready stealth antenna, all-new wheel designs, and multiple open-air freedom options.

Among the interior features of the Wrangler 4xe are 12-way power-adjustable front seats and a 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen audio with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity.

Safety of all occupants are guaranteed while on the road with the vehicle's first- and second-row side curtain airbags, forward collision warning, and advanced cruise control.

Earlier this month, the Wrangler 4xe was named Adventure Vehicle of the Year by Hispanic Motor Press.
