Kia EV Day presents all-new EV5, 2 concept models

MANILA: Kia Corporation showcased three new small- to medium-sized electric vehicles (EV) at the annual Kia EV Day in South Korea.

One of the models presented was the EV5 sports utility vehicle (SUV) which is based on Kia’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

The Kia EV5 will be manufactured in China and South Korea. Three variants will be offered in the Chinese market, with power output of up to 230 kilowatts (kW) and driving range of up to 720 kilometers on a single charge. The long-range all-wheel-drive variant has fast-charging capability, allowing the battery to be charged from 30 to 80 percent in just 27 minutes.

South Korea will get the same variants, however, there will be less power output and the driving range will be adapted to market demands.

The EV5 comes with Highway Driving Assist 2, which aids in changing lanes, staying centered in the lane, and adjusting lateral position. It also has vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-grid technologies.

Kia also unveiled two concept cars at the event — one of which is the Concept EV3, which embodies the brand’s vision for an electric compact crossover utility vehicle The Concept EV3 offers the technology, functionality, and design of Kia’s flagship SUV, the EV9, in a compact package.

On the other hand, the Kia Concept EV4 has a four-door configuration that might indicate that it is a sedan, however, its dynamic and striking lines represent not just another sedan, but a new type of EV.

“Kia is keenly focused on providing solutions to the concerns that continue to cause hesitation when it comes to making an EV purchase. We will meet customer expectations by offering a full line–up of EVs at various price points,” Kia Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Ho Sung Song stated.
