Kia introduces Concept EV5, a compact electric SUV

MANILA: At Kia China EV Day, Kia Corporation introduced the Concept EV5. The event's centerpiece was an all-electric SUV concept, which served to showcase the brand's plan to become a leader in electrification globally.

The Concept EV5 offers a sneak peek at a production all-electric SUV type that will be introduced first in China later this year and is inspired by Kia's "Opposites Unified" design concept. The Concept EV5 also marks the beginning of a new design era for Kia and offers an eye-catching preview of the stylistic focus of the company's upcoming fully electric cars.

Kia Concept EV5 Exterior 

The Concept EV5's remarkable aesthetics were created by Kia's design team with the help of their "Opposites Unified" design philosophy, which celebrates the creative tension created by the merger of often seemingly opposing visual inspirations of nature and modernity. The Concept EV5 is a distinctive SUV designed to support those pursuing a "borderless life," in which there is no distinction between how they enjoy and appreciate nature and the city. In particular, the "Bold for Nature" pillar of the philosophy has influenced the form and stance of the Concept EV5.

“The Kia Concept EV5 takes influence from the contrast and complementarity of natural landscapes and man-made architecture. It is designed to inspire our customers on every journey, while providing sustainable and environmentally responsible solutions. Created for those who seek inventive new ideas, the SUV brings together emotional form language with innovative, user-focused interior architecture,” explained Karim Habib, Executive Vice President, and Head of Kia Global Design Center.

From every viewpoint, the Concept EV5 plainly has a forward-thinking appearance. The car's identity and authenticity as a member of the Kia family, though, are undeniable. A new version of the Digital Tiger Face at the front subtly pays homage to the iconic Kia Tiger Nose grille while projecting cleanliness and dignity, strength, and robustness in equal measure. Kia's Star Map distinctive lighting technology, which introduces the idea of a constellation connecting stars to a clean face, is merged with the assured new design.

While Kia's designers drew inspiration from nature to build the Concept EV5's exterior, they also outfitted the SUV with user-friendly amenities to provide users more freedom to engage with and enjoy nature. Bold for Nature, a cornerstone of the brand's "Opposites United" design concept, has also had a significant impact.

A "place of cohabitation" where nature, people, and technology can coexist in peace is created by the cabin's spacious interior and fully flat floor. The interior of the Concept EV5 offers the ideal setting for occupants to unwind thanks to the design principles of Healing, Caring, and Re-Charging.

The interior color scheme promotes serenity and purity, the central fascia highlights the motto "Bold for Nature" by using contrasting materials, and the massive, wide panoramic display offers more content for the passengers to appreciate.

With its limitless design, the Concept EV5 makes the distinction between interior and outdoor environments less clear. Ingenious swivel seats allow users to relax while enjoying uninterrupted views of the surroundings, depending on where they have parked.

The large, full-length panoramic sunroof, which also serves as solar panels, offers the ideal opportunity for occupants to take in the stars as they begin to appear in the sky above as night falls. The sophisticated bridge lighting system in the SUV may be changed to accommodate the needs and reflect the emotions of the passengers.

The Concept EV5's interior is constructed of a variety of environmentally friendly materials in keeping with Kia's commitment to producing its vehicles utilizing construction techniques and components that are more in tune with nature. Many eco-friendly products are used to carry out the brand's sustainable development goal, including repurposed PET bottles and seaweed extract for the seats, doors, dashboard, and headliner, which raises the bar for sustainability without using any animal leather.

In the latter part of this year, the Chinese market will receive the EV5's production model first. Any upcoming intentions for the other international markets will be announced in due course.
