Kia QYI concept SUV teaser sketches released
MANILA: Kia just released two teaser sketches for its new sub-compact SUV ahead of its unveiling slated for February 5 at the New Delhi auto show in India.
Well, there is much to speculate about the new Kia crossover. Codenamed QYI, it looks like a smaller version of the Seltos and would probably measure four-meter in length. From the sketches, you’d see a set of gigantic wheels sporting that unique KIA signature design. The beefy front grille is flanked by elongated headlights with hockey stick shaped LED daytime running lights. On the lower end is a robust looking lower chin with large air intakes skirting the embedded fog lights at both ends.
At the back, the rear window wraps up to the side and runs parallel to the length of the taillights. Speaking off, the taillights underneath is connected by a thin red LED strip that runs across the rear hatch. Further down, the bumper shows the same crease design found in front for cohesiveness with a large chrome exhaust tucked in the left corner. On top is a minimalistic looking spoiler and silver roof rails to complete the SUV look.
The sketches do not preview the cars with doors and that's something left for the actual auto show. The cabin and glasshouse greatly mimic the Seltos while the curved C-pillar looks like it has been lifted from the Sportage, but just a bit more angular.
Kia’s new subcompact SUV will probably be based on the Hyundai Venue’s powertrain— something not available in our shores at the moment— which comes in two options. First is the
BS6 version of 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol which can produce 82 Hp of power and 115 Nm of torque and or 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol capable of delivering 118 hp of power and 172 Nm of peak torque. If the new QYI crossover follows the same specification, the 1.2-liter petrol engine will be partnered to a 5-speed manual while the 1.0-liter turbocharged engine will have two transmission options - either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT auto.
Speculations about the new Kia subcompact crossover will be put to rest once it gets unveiled on February 5th.
