Kia Reveals All-Electric EV5 Compact SUV

MANILA: Kia unveiled the all-electric Kia EV5 compact SUV at the Chengdu Motor Show in China on Friday.

The Kia EV5 achieves a harmonious mix between revolutionary design, exceptional versatility, and superior comfort. Every feature of the Kia EV5 has been created with the goal of giving modern families the flexibility they need and enhance their enjoyment on every trip.

In developing the Kia EV5, Kia drew inspiration from its renowned “Opposites United” design concept. Kia aims to defy the conventional aesthetics of the current compact SUV sector and produce a vehicle with a confident, bold, fresh, and genre-redefining character.

The Kia EV5 has strong, solid lines that complement with the seamless blending of modern architecture and natural surroundings. It exhibits a modern interpretation of the Kia tiger mask with a wide and distinctive stance.

“The Kia EV5 was created to redefine the compact SUV genre with a form shaped by Kia’s unique design philosophy ‘Opposites United.’ At every stage, Kia’s designers have worked closely with their engineering colleagues to create a holistic solution for sustainable mobility. As a result, the EV5 sets a new standard for design, performance and practicality while providing new levels of driver enjoyment and user experience,” Kia Global Design Center Head Karim Habib stated.

Further enhancing the front exterior look is the three-dimensional Signature Star Map Lighting made up of LED daytime running lights.

An extended and lowered spoiler at the rear preserves the Kia EV5's distinctive appearance while enhancing aerodynamic performance. The Kia EV5's rugged stance is further emphasized by its intricate lower skid plate, and the design is finished off perfectly by the tailgate's dividing line.

According to a study by Kia, millennial households are now considering the interior of their electric SUV as an additional “room” wherein they spend their time instead of just a place to sit safely and comfortably when traveling from point A to point B. To meet this demand, the interior of the Kia EV5 has been extensively reimagined by Kia's interior designers. They gave the Kia EV5 a spacious interior that is more akin to a home lounge in concept than a typical car cabin, drawing inspiration from the recently launched Kia EV9.

The cozy interior of the Kia EV5 blends a sense of wellbeing and pure family fun thanks to the carefully curated design elements and flawless execution of the overall finish. This is much more evident in low light, with the variable mood lighting across the front section of the crash pad as well as the front and rear door trims.

A distinctive design element of the Kia EV5 is its gorgeous and luxurious center fascia, which also offers class-leading functionality and seamless, intuitive occupant interaction. The integration of features like the climate controls and the new generation connected car Navigation & Cockpit (ccNC) allows passengers to choose their preferred settings as easily as if they were seated in their favorite chair at home.

The Kia EV5 will be officially launched within the second half of 2023, initially in China, and additional product information will be revealed during the Kia EV Day in October.
