Kia sells more than 3-M cars globally in 2023

MANILA: Kia has sold more than three million cars worldwide in 2023.

In total, the South Korean carmaker noted that it sold 3,087,384 units from January-December last year. The said numbers reflected a 6.4 percent growth compared to the company’s recorded global sales in the same time period in 2022.

For the fourth quarter alone, Kia sold 733,155 vehicles, which translates to a 0.4 percent increase versus the brand’s Q4 numbers in 2022.

It was not disclosed which models were among the top-sellers, but in the Philippines, Kia’s roster is comprised of the Sorento, Carnival, Stonic, Soluto, and Seltos.

With electrification being one of the main focuses of the Hyundai-owned firm, Kia reported that from October to December, it sold 143,000 electrified vehicles (EV). The said number included hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric models — representing an 18.1 percent increase from a year earlier.

Kia did not say which of its offerings ranked the best. In the Philippines, Kia’s electrified lineup is made up only of the EV6.

The Seoul-headquartered carmaker believes that global market uncertainties will persist in 2024. However, the company aims to further bolster its initiatives and achieve sustainable growth through its structured, positive business cycle and global EV leadership, which will be solidified by the brand’s expanded model lineup.

Just recently, Kia rolled out the EV9 three-row sport utility vehicle. Likewise, the brand just unveiled two concept cars that might soon see the light of day.

“To achieve its aim, Kia will continue its sales growth of highly appealing models in major markets such as North America and Europe, where demand for high-value-added vehicles is strong,” Kia wrote in a press release.
