Lamborghini Urus SE now in Malaysia, is PH next?

MANILA: The all-new Lamborghini Urus SE has been launched in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, marking another significant milestone in the hybrid high-performance SUV’s journey. The momentous event follows its recent launch in Thailand and its global debut at the 2024 Auto China a few months ago.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How much horsepower can the Lamborghini Urus SE make?

The Lamborghini Urus SE can produce up to 789 horsepower.
  • As such, Filipino fans of the muscular SUV are wondering: could the Philippine market be the next in line to get the all-new model?

To remind readers, the Urus SE is the Italian supercar maker’s first-ever plug-in hybrid version of the Urus. According to Lamborghini, its new PHEV boasts up to 80 percent reduction in emissions despite its significant gain in output.

The Urus’ 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 internal combustion engine (ICE) alone can make around 611 hp and 800 Newton Meters of torque. The electronic motor positioned inside its 10-speed automatic gearbox adds to the latter with 192 hp and 483 Nm of torque, resulting in a total output rating of 789 hp and around 1,000 Nm of torque. It likewise provides an EV-only drive mode of up to 60 kilometers.

To put the Urus SE’s output rating into perspective, the Urus S, which was launched for the Philippine market last year, can deliver up to 657 hp and 850 Nm of torque. Furthermore, the Italian Prancing Bull brand claims the Urus SE can do zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.4 seconds. Compare the latter to the Urus S, which can achieve the same feat in 3.5 seconds.

The aforementioned super SUV utilizes an all-wheel drive system coupled with an electronic limited-slip differential and an active air suspension system for optimum handling and grip. Its heavy batteries are likewise positioned low within its chassis to ensure a low center of gravity, while its wheels are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires.

     Lamborghini Urus SE interior

Inside, the Urus SE has a well-appointed interior filled with amenities such as a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, as well as plenty of high-quality premium textiles and materials.

The exterior of the Lamborghini SUV likewise received improvements, especially for aerodynamics. It retains the same familiar shape as the Urus, but Lamborghini shared it has upgraded the SUV nameplate with a slicker underside and improved airflow. According to the Sant’Agata Bolognese-based company, the aerodynamic revisions on the Urus SE have enhanced the vehicle’s air cooling by 30 percent.

For now, PGA Cars Incorporated, the official distributor of Lamborghini in the Philippines, has yet to indicate when the Urus SE will enter the country. But by judging Malaysia’s proximity to the Philippines, it is hoped the powerful SUV will see a local debut soon.
