Land Rover Defender might break the shackles very soon
MANILA: Land Rover has shared an image with a caption saying, “Do not unwrap until 2019”, of what certainly is the all-new Defender. In the image, the 4x4 is being unloaded from a trailer and is covered with camouflage. The Defender lovers might soon have a reason to celebrate.
Talking about the physical appearance of the Defender, the 4x4 still continues to boast the boxy design language. However, even with the boxy design, the new Defender is much more aerodynamic than before thanks to the subtle improvements like the new design of the windshield. Going by the image, there is a spare tyre carrier at the rear and bigger wheels with larger brake rotors than before.
The new Defender is expected to be offered in both the 90 and 110 variants. By the variants 90 and 110, Land Rover means three-door and five-door models. Providing the customers with a plush ride quality will be an independent suspension setup at the rear instead of leaf-springs like the previous Defender.
With Jaguar-Land Rover preparing to convert their complete vehicle line-up to into an electric one, we expect the new Defender to come with a hybrid variant as well. A 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine is also in the talks to be featured in the 4x4. The hybrid variant should also help Land Rover in the selling the Defender in countries which have stringent emission norms. Until the all-new Defender makes its way to the podium, do not forget to check out the current Land Rover line-up in the Philippines which consists of the likes of Land Rover Discover Sport, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, Land Rover Range Rover Velar and others.
