Land Rover shows off Electric Technology with Three New Concepts

MANILA: The latest development in terms of electric and hybrid technologies is going on in Jaguar-Land Rover hut, is unveiled through three new concepts in form of Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and rolling chassis. These three give us a glimpse of coming electric future.

The cars have been in development for past two years with an try on different battery-based options. JLR claims that the batteries in question are capable and powerful of generating twice as much torque as any in production today and are also designed in such a way that they can be integrated with any engine and transmission combination to create plug-in hybrid or mild hybrid, or own battery-powered electric vehicle.

The first car is called as the Concept e MHEV which means mild hybrid vehicle. It is based on a Range Rover Evoque and pair a prototype 89 hp diesel engine along with 48 V lithium ion battery pack. The second is a PHEV concept which means plug-in hybrid. This Range Rover Sport based model receives the same set up to that of a mild hybrid but gains a much larger battery and 269 hp petrol engine. The battery is a 320 V lithium ion unit which would use the eight-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drivetrain system to deliver 150 kw to wheels.

The final concept is all-new and based on JLR's new aluminum platform. It's 70 kWh lithium ion battery powers a 85 kW electric motor on front axle and 145 kW on rear axle. Further, known that total of 12 partners worked on Evoque E project where key finding was new modular design for an electric motor which was designed and developed in-house.

Technologies like these have already helped us reduce our fleet CO2 average by 25 per cent in recent years.” said Dr. Epple, Jaguar-Land Rover Director for Research and Technology.
