LOOK: More renderings of the Kia Sonet subcompact SUV
MANILA: India is getting it first but we're sure a lot of you want it already.
A little over a week after unveiling the first image of the Kia Sonet subcompact SUV, a new set of photos has been released by the Korean automaker including a full view of the vehicle from the front quarter and rear quarter panel, and the cockpit.
It appears highly robust with a bulging hood, flared front and rear fenders, a rather thick rocker panel, and an aggressively designed front bumper with chrome housings for a couple of air intakes and a chrome skid plate.
Headlamps are very stylish and slim with daytime running lamps above, small foglamps below, and the large wheels and roof rails enhance the sporty appeal.
Using Indian-inspired architecture, the grille has a three-dimensional "stepwell" geometric mesh to complement Kia’s "tiger nose" design philosophy.
The cockpit features a sweeping, segment-first 10.25-inch high-definition touchscreen and right beside it is what appears to be a digital display instrument cluster. The steering wheels shows various buttons, which according to Kia includes controls for various drive and traction modes.
Air-conditioning vents on the dashboard show similar construction as the air intakes on the front bumper.
According to the automaker, the Sonet will come with an extensive list of active and passive safety equipment, and at least six airbags – another class-leading feature.
The Sonet will be launched globally on August 7 and will initially be made available in India before it makes it to other global markets.
“We are extremely excited to introduce the new Kia Sonet to the world, a compact SUV with a strong and muscular character found only in much larger vehicles. With this in mind, we have designed this SUV with a uniquely sporty attitude, a confident stance and a dynamic silhouette. Its uncompromising attention to detail and selection of colors and materials could have only be inspired by the great cultural heritage that our designers found all over India. We believe the Kia Sonet’s compelling character will hold major appeal for young, aspirational and always-connected customers in India and beyond,” said Kia Motors Corporation Senior Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design Karim Habib.
