LTO confirms enough supply of plastic cards for DL renewal

MANILA: The Land Transportation Office announced that it has secured a sufficient number of plastic cards for drivers with expired licenses dated from April 1 to September 30, 2023.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What expiration dates are covered by LTO's supply of plastic cards?

According to LTO, its recent supply of plastic cards will cover expired licenses from April 1 to September 30, 2023.
  • How many renewal schedules did LTO set?

The LTO has set six renewal date schedules for motorists.
  • On that note, they will not receive paper-printed driver’s licenses but the actual card instead.

Meron na po tayong sapat na bilang ng plastic cards to cover the printing of the driver’s licenses that expired mula April 1 hanggang September 30 dahil sa tulong ng ating DOTr (Department of Transportation) Secretary Jaime Bautista ay mas pinadami ang production at mas pinabilis ang delivery para ma-address na natin ang backlog sa driver’s license (we already have enough number of plastic cards to cover the printing of the driver’s licenses that expired from April 1 until September 30 thanks to the help of DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista, which boosted the production and sped the delivery of plastic cards, to address our driver’s license backlog),” said LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Attorney Vigor Mendoza II.

Further, the land transportation bureau has released six renewal dates for the renewal of the licenses covered in the said months. The reason for creating such schedules — LTO pointed out — was to avoid congestion in the agency’s offices across the country.

Ang iniiwasan natin dito ay dahil nga may plastic card na ay biglang bugso ng tao sa ating mga opisina para mag-renew. Gusto nating magkaroon ng sistema upang mabilis at komportable sa ating mga kababayan (what we’re avoiding here is the surge of people looking to renew their licenses since we already have plastic cards. We want to have a system to ensure a fast and comfortable process for our countrymen),” Mendoza commented.

Drivers with licenses that expired from April 1 to 30 will have to renew their permits from October 6 to 31, 2023. On the other hand, drivers with expired licenses from May 1 to 31 will have to visit LTO offices from November 1 to 30, 2023.

Meanwhile, the agency said that drivers with expired licenses from June 1 to 30 will have to schedule a visit to an LTO branch from December 1 to 31, 2023. And as for those with licenses that expired from July 1 to 31 can have their licenses renewed from January 1 to 31, 2024.

Motorists who have licenses that expired from August 1 to 31 will have to renew their licenses from February 1 to 29, 2024. The renewal date for driver’s licenses that expired from September 1 to 30 will be from March 1 to 31, 2024.

Encouraging drivers who will renew their licenses, Mendoza said that the process will only take about 15 minutes.

Mabilis lang po ang proseso ng pag-renew, it will only take around 15 minutes at ang maganda pa dito ay nilagyan natin ng sistema ito para hindi matagal yung waiting time (the renewal process is quick, it will only take around 15 minutes and what’s good about this is that we have a system in place to reduce the wait time),” Mendoza explained.

The LTO Chief Assistant Secretary did not forget those who had already renewed their driver’s licenses but were not given plastic cards. Mendoza noted that all they need to do is go back to the licensing office and present the receipt of their payment for the issuance of the plastic version of the driver’s license.
