LTO: License Plate Backlog Expected to be Cleared by Next Year
MANILA: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) ordered 15 million metal plates used to make license plates for both cars and motorcycles in an effort to address the backlog as soon as possible.

According to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II, the production capacity is also increasing at 32,000 per day or around 700,000 per month.The order, which is being processed by the Department of Transportation under the direction of Secretary Jaime Bautista, will cover the current 13.2-million backlog for motorcycles and around 179,000 for motor vehicles, according to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II.
“We already ordered 15 million license plates and the delivery has already started. With this, we expect to address the backlog for both motor vehicles and motorcycles on a monthly basis,” Mendoza said.
He also asked the public for understanding, stating that it will take more time to resolve the issue due to the volume of the backlog, especially for motorcycles.
However, he assured that all backlogs will be cleared by 2024, including the registration of new cars and motorcycles in the coming months.
“Humahabol na tayo kase bumibilis na po ‘yung delivery ng plates, ‘no, (We are catching up because the delivery of the plates is speeding up) to the tune of 250,000 pairs every month for the motor vehicle and one million every month for the motorcycle so this is speeding up already,” Mendoza said.
“Even our production capacity is also increasing at 32,000 per day or around 700,000 per month,” he added.
Mendoza said that he is confident that all backlogs, as well as the daily consumption rate for new vehicle license plates and replacement license plates, will be taken care of by next year.
