LTO, LTFRB to take services online
MANILA: To keep the virus away while keeping up with the times, the LTO (Land Transportation Office) and LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board) will upgrade their systems beginning 01 June 2020 in order to be able to offer all their services with minimal person-to-person contact while also boosting both agency’s efficiency.
The LTO will shift to a new program that allows driver’s licenses and permits to be delivered by courier to promote physical distancing, reduce unnecessary trips to and from LTO offices, and to also validate the addresses of license/permit applicants.
Robotics technology will also be employed to manufacture vehicle license plates.
Vehicles under the mandate of the LTFRB will have to modernize operations by using automatic fare collection system (AFCS) for cashless payment transactions, electronic toll collection, and GNSS/GPS.
Another digital initiative developed by the Board is to adopt the Public Transport Online Processing System (PTOPS), which is set to kick off in the National Capital Region (NCR) today. This system will allow transactions to be made online, except the publication and hearing of cases—which will make LTFRB services faster and accessible for all its stakeholders.
