LTO says new facility can produce 32,000 plates daily

MANILA: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) revealed that its new plate-making facility can produce 32,000 number plates a day.

On that note, the agency expressed confidence that “the issue of having backlogs will never happen again.”

“They started with five equipment, I think by now there are eight machines working, they will reach 32,000 plates production a day. We will announce very soon, within the week upon DOTr (Department of Transportation) approval that we can already accommodate,” said LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Attorney Vigor Mendoza.

That said, the LTO believes that motor vehicle license plates will be available in as early as 10 days with motorcycle vehicle plate numbers to be handed out to motorbike owners almost as soon as the registration process is complete.

“‘Pag bumili ka ng kotse ngayon, in 10 days nandiyan na ‘yung plaka mo, ‘pag bumili ka ng motorsiklo ngayon, nandiyan na kaagad ‘yung plaka mo (if you buy a car today, your license plate will be there in 10 days, if you buy a motorcycle now, your license plate will be there immediately), Mendoza noted.
