Mahle Aftermarket to expand battery diagnostic tools after largest sales boost
MANILA: German manufacturer of vehicle workshop equipment Mahle Aftermarket reported an increase in sales by 18.5% to approximately €1.1 billion (P63 billion). It is the highest annual sales figures achieved since the business was founded, the company noted.
The positive development of sales is a result of continuously high demand for replacement and accessory parts for commercial vehicles, electronic components, and filters for alternative drives, Mahle Aftermarket cited.
Mahle Aftermarket is a branch of Mahle, a supplier to the automotive industry with customers in both passenger car and commercial vehicle sectors. Founded in 1920, the company generates over 60% of its sales to the passenger car combustion engine, with one in every two vehicles around the world today being equipped with Mahle components.
Mahle Aftermarket specializes in spare parts, and uses the expertise it has gained from its parent company's original equipment. The company partners with trade, workshops, and engine repair shops.
At a recent virtual press conference where ZIGWHEELS PHILIPPINES was invited to, Mahle Management Committee and Head of the Aftermarket Olaf Henning said: “Despite very tense supply chains and declining fleet performance, we achieved strong growth in a difficult market environment. This clearly demonstrates the trust that our customers have in us.
Particularly, in the area of battery diagnostics, we came in far ahead of the global competition.”
Today, aside from supplying internal combustion engines, Mahle aims to focus on electric mobility and CO2 reduction by serving fuel cells, hydrogen motors, and thermal management solutions.
As Mahle expects that workshop equipment sales to grow much faster than the market, Mahle Aftermarket announced during the conference its plans to expand its business with the BatteryPro line of diagnostic tools.
Since the end of March this year, the company claimed it has been the world’s first supplier to enable independent workshops to perform battery diagnostics with the E-Scan function on the diagnostic tool Mahle TechPro. By the end of the year, this function will be expanded to include the E-Health and E-Care units.
When E-Health is connected to an electric vehicle via its charging plug, the tool can perform diagnostics on the vehicle's batteries and calculate the data in the cloud. With the E-Health tool, the state of the vehicle's battery can be matched in relation to all other recorded batteries of the same model in a fleet. E-Health also forecasts the remaining expected life of a vehicle.
Early this year, the new Mahle diagnostics solution for passenger cars was tested in practice together with TÜV Nord Mobilität and a European fleet operator. Mahle Aftermarket will soon offer battery diagnostics for battery electric trucks and buses, the company said.
Meanwhile, the Mahle E-Care is a service unit that performs maintenance on the cooling circuits of vehicle batteries, as vehicle and coolant manufacturers set certain replacement intervals for the coolants used. In this way, Mahle Aftermarket enables workshops to secure additional business volume beyond the internal combustion engine, the manufacturer added.
