Maserati reveals more details on new, electric GranTurismo

MANILA: Maserati unveils the new GranTurismo, beginning a new chapter in a tale that began with the Maserati A6 1500 75 years ago, bringing back one of the brand's icons.

The GranTurismo coupé blends comfort appropriate for long trips with the high performance expected of a sports car, both in the version with a potent internal combustion engine and with the most cutting-edge 100% electric solutions.

It serves as a benchmark and personifies the idea that "The Others Just Travel." The House of the Trident is moving forward with this model since it is the first vehicle in the brand's history to include a fully electric drivetrain.

The 2023 Maserati GranTurismo design strikes the perfect aesthetic mix between elegance and practicality without being ostentatious. A pure shape suitable to cover best-in-class machinery, stressing the purity of its shapes and its sophisticated design cues, with clearly distinctive and instantly recognized lines.

As for the long bonnet and center body, they are intersected by the four fenders, maintaining the brand's iconic proportions. On the other hand, the roof line dynamically descends to highlight the pillar's curved design, which bears the recognizable Trident emblem.

The GranTurismo is entirely created in Italy, developed at the Maserati Innovation Lab, and produced at the Mirafiori manufacturing complex in Turin. It represents the pinnacle of "Italian luxury performance," a notion shared by all Maserati models.

The new coupé is powered by the ground-breaking 3.0-liter V6 Nettuno Twin Turbo engine, which comes in two versions: the Modena and the high-performance Trofeo. The Modena version has a maximum output of 490 horsepower.

As an alternative, the 2023 Maserati GranTurismo Folgore has a battery-powered, all electric drivetrain. The three potent 300-kW permanent magnet motors in the Folgore system, which is based on 800-volt technology and was created with cutting-edge technical solutions from Formula E, enable it to function very well.

The battery has a nominal capacity of 92.5 kWh and a discharge capacity of 560 kW, to continuously transmit around 760 hp to the wheels. The specific set-up and innovative layout of the battery result in the containment of vehicle height to 1,353 millimeters, without compromising its sporty nature.

The shape of the battery pack, known as ‘T-bone’, forms part of Maserati’s “zero compromise” approach and avoids placing the battery modules under the seats, mainly moving them around the central tunnel and therefore considerably lowering the car’s H-point.

An outcome of an inventive initiative that heavily relies on high-performance steel and lightweight materials like aluminum and magnesium, is the bases of the 2023 GranTurismo’s technical architecture. Best-in-class weight levels were achieved as a result of this multi-material approach, which necessitated the development of novel manufacturing techniques.

This method is combined with the new electrical/electronic Atlantis High architecture, which is based on canFD messages transferred at up to 2ms per message. The system also includes flash-over-the-air capabilities and sophisticated level 5 cyber-security.

The Vehicle Domain Control Module (VDCM) master controller, a wholly-owned Maserati project, serves as the pivot. It is a piece of software that offers 360-degree control of all the most crucial auto systems for the best driving experience under any circumstances.

The Maserati GranTurismo's contemporary interior is outfitted with cutting-edge systems, such as the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) Multimedia system, the newest infotainment, a comfort display that combines the essential features in a touchscreen interface, a digital clock, and the Heads-Up Display (available as an option).

Due to creative work by engineers at the Maserati Innovation Lab, the GranTurismo also provides an "all-round sound experience," guaranteed by the distinctive signature sound of the Maserati engine, even in the electrified version. The Sonus faber 3D sound system's immersive quality brings the audio experience to a close.

Created and built by Italian audio artisans, the audio system features two levels of customization, up to 19 speakers, and 3D sound with an output of up to 1,195 watts, for depth of field and a genuinely distinctive roundness of sound.

The 2023 Maserati GranTurismo will also be offered at launch in the PrimaSerie 75th Anniversary Launch Edition, a limited series commemorating the company's recent 75th anniversary and incorporating exclusive extras.

The new GranTurismo enables Maserati to solve the seemingly impossible equation of combining sports performance with comfort suitable for long distances, both with powerful internal combustion engines and with the most cutting-edge 100% electric solutions. Sportiness, luxury, and comfort: by focusing on customer requests from the earliest stages of development onward.

It serves as a benchmark for the luxury coupe industry.
