Mazda 6 Wagon: First impression

Mazda Philippines has been quiet for quite some time now. We haven’t heard of anything new from the company that would make us a bit curious. But we decided to wait in the hope that Mazda’s muteness is like the silence before the storm. Well, we were right. Mazda broke its silence and surprised us by launching the Mazda 6 Turbo and the facelifted Mazda 6 Wagon in the country.

While we are super excited to talk about the sedan, in this story we are going to cover the wagon. Coming from the house of Mazda, we are pretty sure this large state wagon packs in some attractive features to stand out from the crowd. Let’s check it out in our first impression story.

Exterior

The first thing that we noticed about the 2019 Mazda 6 Wagon is its sheer size. Yes, it’s a long car. And kudos to Mazda for still making it look like a masterpiece. The Wagon measures 4,805 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height. You will be in awe when you see this vehicle in person. It is really eye-catching and captivating. Since it’s a Mazda, it simply had to look good. And it does too. The Mazda 6 Wagon features a familiar front fascia that we have seen on other Mazda cars available in the country. We are not complaining here, though. We always liked the front look of Mazda products and we’re glad that the 6 Wagon carries it forward with pride.

It features a pair of very stylish, sleek, and aggressive LED adaptive headlamps that come with integrated LED daytime running lights which are fantastic in their own way. Then we’ve Mazda’s signature and unique front grille. There is so much sophistication going on that you cannot mistake a Mazda with any other car out there. Looking at the Mazda 6 Wagon from the side,

you’d be lost in admiring its beautiful shape. Also, the 19-inch aluminium alloy wheels add to the overall style quotient. We also like the chrome embellishment around the windows. It’s a premium feature. The rear end of the car is flaunted by large LED taillights and a prominent horizontal chrome slat. We also see a roof-mounted rear spoiler.

Interior

Again, being a Mazda, you will get nothing but exceptional quality inside the Mazda 6 Wagon as well. The fit and finish are just immaculate. Nappa leather seats provide superior comfort and there is an ample amount of cabin space for every occupant. Yes, there are features that you must have seen before on other Mazda cars,

like the 8-inch touchscreen display. But you won’t be complaining about anything. The Mazda 6 Wagon also gets a heads-up display, ventilated front seats which are electronically adjustable as well, two USB ports for the rear passengers, and whatnot? Other premium features include leather-wrapped shift knob, 11-speaker BOSE sound system, and automatic dual-zone climate control, among others.

Engine

Mazda 6 Wagon specs sow Mazda’s SkyAcitv 2.5 unit. It’s a 2.5-litre four-cylinder DOHC engine that produces 190 PS of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 252 Nm of peak torque that kicks in at 4,000 rpm. The transmission here is Mazda’s SkyActive-drive 6-speed automatic unit for providing seamless gear changes and optimal blend of performance and fuel efficiency. Unlike the turbocharged engine on the Mazda 6 sedan, the Wagon’s motor is naturally aspirated.

Safety equipment

Mazda pays close attention to the safety features on its cars. The Wagon comes with 6 SRS airbags (front airbags for driver & passenger, side airbags for driver & passenger, and curtain airbags), ABS with EBD, dynamic stability control, parking sensors with a 360-degree view camera, Mazda’s G-Vectoring system, etc. There are some special features as well like the i-STOP idling stop system, i-ELOOP regenerative braking system, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, and lane departure warning with lane keep assist.

Overall, the new Mazda 6 Wagon appears to be a solid package and will be a great family wagon. The Mazda 6 Wagon price is Php 1,995,000 and it’s available with three color options - Soul Red Crystal, Snowflake White Pearl, and Machine Gray.
