Mazda and Kia bags top 3 positions in World Car Awards 2020

MANILA: Top three finalists for the World Car Awards 2020 have been announced and the final winner will come to limelight next month in April. The star models securing the top 3 final positions in the main category include the Mazda 3, Mazda CX-30 and Kia Telluride. This implies that the models who couldn’t impress the jury include the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, Mercedes-Benz CLA, Mercedes-Benz GLB, Volkswagen Golf, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Soul EV and Volkswagen T-Cross.

Talking about the other categories, the performance car category includes the Porsche 718 Spyder/Cayman GT4, Porsche 911, and Porsche Taycan. The urban category finalists include the Kia Soul EV, Mini Electric, and Volkswagen T-Cross.

In the recent development made at the World Car Awards 2020, only three finalists have been shortlisted for now, with the final winner due to be announced in 33 days on the 8th of April, 2020. This moves the prestigious award to its final phase. The jury bench of World Car Awards consists of 86 distinguished international automotive journalists.

The jurors selected the finalists by a secret ballot based on their individual analysis and evaluation of each vehicle. One of the big four auditing and consultancy Multinational company KPMG was called in to tabulate the vote results in an independent manner.

Last year Jaguar I-Pace was named as the World Car of the Year in 2019  and it will be interesting to see which car gets a golden chance to de-throne Jaguar and become its successor. On that note, the British all-electric crossover also won the titles in the green category, as well as the World Car Design of the Year award in 2019.

The auto industry awaits the final result to see which car emerges as the winner. Winners are scheduled to be announced at a special press conference at the New York Auto Show. However, there are already some concerns regarding the cancellation chances for this show as well, due to coronavirus outbreak which already has claimed shows like   Shanghai, Tokyo, and Geneva shows as victims.
