Mazda CX-90 packed with features that help prevent carsickness among kids

MANILA: According to a recent study by Mazda North American Operations, 85 percent of parents are planning to have a road trip this holiday season.

61 percent of the respondents said that they worry about their child getting carsick while on the road, as 48 percent of them have already experienced this before.

After gathering the data, Mazda has partnered with Dr. Mona Amin, a board-certified general pediatrician, certified lactation consultant, and parenting coach, to give parents some tips to handle carsickness.

In addition, the doctor-influencer also highlighted how the Mazda CX-90 is an ideal family vehicle as it is packed with features that help prevent kids from getting carsick.

Here are the tips provided by Dr. Amin and for avoiding and treating carsickness:

Increase airflow

Keeping the cabin cool can help prevent nausea as it hampers the rise of the body’s temperature.

With its third-row ventilation system, the CX-90 ensures a cooler temperature inside.

87 percent of the respondents said that third-row air-conditioning vents inside the vehicle indeed help prevent symptoms of carsickness.

Look straight ahead

Parents must encourage children to look straight ahead to prevent intersensory conflict that leads to motion sickness.

“Motion sickness happens when your brain receives conflicting information from the inner ears, eyes, and nerves – essentially your body cannot infer whether it is in motion or not – resulting in a queasy feeling,” Dr. Amin explained.

76 percent of the respondents agreed that looking at the horizon or a distant, stationary object helps in curing carsickness.

Since the CX-90 has an elevated third row as well as large windows, it allows all passengers to have a clear view of the road ahead.

Do not read and look at screens

Three quarters of the respondents said that reducing screen time helps prevent car sickness as looking at screens can also cause confusion between the visual cues and the sense of movement of the inner ears. This also happens when reading while the car is in motion.

She recommends playing music, podcasts, or audio books instead to keep the passengers entertained.
